Gently rattle the copper heads to summon vengeful spirits that chase down foes. The anguish of a spouse and children invites accursed wrath.

Altus Plateau

Starting Site of Grace: Sage's Cave

  1. Reach Altus Plateau with both Dectus Medallion halves, from Fort Haight and Fort Faroth, or by defeating Magma Wyrm Makar at the top of Ruin-Strewn Precipice.
  2. From Abandoned Coffin, cross the shallow lake toward the northeastern cliff and enter Sage's Cave. Activate the grace and bring a Lantern for its dark passages.
  3. Strike the wall at the first dead end. Turn right, follow the stream past the skeleton and reveal the next false wall beside the moss.
  4. Pass the two chests and descend south into the shallow water. Look left for the false wall between two small fires. Clear the skeletons behind it to reach the room with four chests.
  5. Return to the passage and continue south to the chamber with crossbow skeletons on a wooden platform. Clear the enemies before following the passage on the far side.
  6. Continue to the next chest platform, which holds Raptor Talons and Dragonwound Grease. Take the northwest tunnel beyond it to the waterfall.
  7. Face left at the waterfall and jump the gap onto the opposite ledge. Follow the left branch and strike the dead-end wall beside the cave moss.
  8. Open both chests in the hidden room for Skeletal Mask and Raptor's Black Feathers. Both cave bosses are farther on; neither is required for these chests.
  9. From the room with the two armor chests, strike the wall on its northwest side to reveal another passage.
  10. Go through the fog and defeat Necromancer Garris to receive Family Heads. The invisible assassin has a separate arena and reward.

Notes

  • Requires 8 Strength, 18 Dexterity and 16 Intelligence, and weighs 5.5. Dexterity is the main Physical damage attribute; Strength contributes less, and Intelligence improves its smaller Magic portion.
  • It deals Physical Strike and Magic damage. Unlike many ordinary flails, it has no innate Blood Loss buildup.
  • Familial Rancor costs 25 FP and no stamina to perform. It releases seven pursuing skulls in sequence: one large, two medium and four small.
  • The skulls use the weapon's Magic attack power. Intelligence improves them, while the Dexterity that strongly improves ordinary Physical swings does not raise their damage in the same way.
  • The skulls emerge over time rather than all at once. That gives prolonged pressure against a target that stays within reach, but also leaves you committed while the later skulls form.
  • You can roll out during the casting sequence instead of waiting for every skull when an attack is about to reach you. Ending the animation early gives up skulls that have not yet been released.
  • Shard of Alexander and Magic damage bonuses improve the skulls. Godfrey Icon does not because the skill cannot be charged; Prince of Death's Staff and Graven talismans do not improve a weapon skill.
  • The spirits do not build Frostbite, Death Blight or bleed. They are attacks from the flail rather than a Spirit Ash summon, and do not require the Spirit Calling Bell.
  • Uses Somber Smithing Stones to +10. Its skill and affinity are fixed, and grease or weapon enchantments cannot be applied.
  • Necromancer Garris awards it behind the false wall beyond the armor-chest room in Sage's Cave. The invisible Black Knife Assassin has a separate arena and reward.
