Starting Site of Grace: Scorpion River Catacombs

Before you go

  • To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
  • Access the Realm of Shadow and reach Scorpion River Catacombs.
  1. To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
  2. From Moorth Ruins grace in Scadu Altus, ride northeast to the small triangular pool. Look for the cave beside a statue of Marika and a Scadutree Fragment.
  3. Enter the cave and follow it past the perfumers to the glowing golden tree. Take the path to its right down into the swamp.
  4. Turn left through the route beneath the rock and continue until you emerge into Rauh Base. Activate Ancient Ruins Base grace ahead.
  5. Follow the valley southwest toward Temple Town Ruins. A bow golem and an axe golem guard the approach; fighting them is optional if you can pass their attacks.
  6. Collect the map beneath the stele near the ruined town. This is the lower valley, not the upper ruins reached through Shadow Keep.
  7. From Temple Town Ruins, follow the lower river north and northwest past the Pests and Gravebird platforms. Keep following the ravine until you can climb to Ravine North grace.
  8. Return to the river and follow it west, then south around the bend through the spider scorpions. At the coffin-filled end of the ravine, find the catacomb doors in the cliff. Watch for the militiamen guarding the entrance.
  9. Enter Scorpion River Catacombs, take the entrance lift down and activate its grace. Bring Rejuvenating Boluses if available; the floating eyes inside build Death Blight, which kills you when its meter fills.
  10. From the entrance grace, pass the cannon-headed Imp and take the left stairs toward the narrow bridge and Basilisk statue. Use the walls and the underside of the statue to block its floating eyes.
  11. Defeat the Lion Imps carrying forked hatchets along this early route and check their drops. The cannon-headed Imp is a different enemy and weapon.
  12. Return to rest at the entrance grace and repeat the eligible carriers if the weapon does not drop. The Death Knight and the deeper spike ceilings are unnecessary for this early farm.

Notes

  • Requires 10 Strength and 13 Dexterity, and weighs 4. Ordinary attacks deal Physical damage, with stronger Dexterity than Strength scaling.
  • Ordinary full-status hits apply 45 Blood Loss buildup. It has no Arcane scaling, so Arcane does not increase that fixed buildup.
  • Its hatchet light attacks are faster than the larger ordinary axe pattern. Forked Hatchet is a different weapon with its own requirements and pickup enemies.
  • Dragonform Flame costs 14 FP and sweeps a fan of Fire ahead, leaving smaller burning patches where the flames meet the ground.
  • The independent Fire damage improves only through weapon upgrades. Faith, Strength and Dexterity do not strengthen that flame calculation, although the Physical attributes still improve the actual hatchet.
  • The flames and lingering embers carry none of the weapon's Blood Loss buildup. They also give no stance damage, so the long breath is not a stance-breaking replacement for the blade.
  • Shard of Alexander and Fire damage bonuses improve the skill. Godfrey Icon does not because it cannot be charged, and Roar Medallion does not apply despite the breathing animation.
  • Uses ordinary Smithing Stones to +25 despite having a fixed skill. Another Ash or affinity cannot replace it, but grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied to the blade.
  • That coating strengthens eligible weapon contacts, rather than being copied into the independent Fire breath. Its normal attacks have no innate Fire damage.
  • Farm the weapon-carrying Lion Imps in the Realm of Shadow catacombs. The selected Scorpion River route gives repeatable attempts and is separate from the dungeon boss reward.
