In-game description
Superior incantation taught by Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman.
Creates beast claws that rend surroundings with shockwaves.
Long ago, Gurranq was a beast of such terrifying ferocity that his former name meant "Death of the Demigods."
Where to find
Bestial Sanctum
Greyoll's Dragonbarrow
Starting Site of Grace: Bestial Sanctum
Before you go
- Give Gurranq 8 Deathroot in total.
- For an early start, follow the road east from Saintsbridge to Summonwater Village in northeastern Limgrave. Defeat the boat-riding Tibia Mariner among the flooded ruins and collect its Deathroot.
- Find Third Church of Marika in eastern Limgrave. Search the vegetation beside the stream behind the church for the sending gate. D can mark it after you show him a Deathroot, but speaking to him is optional.
- Use the gate to reach Bestial Sanctum, enter the large doors behind the arrival point and activate the grace inside. The Black Blade Kindred outside does not need to be fought.
- Speak to Gurranq at the far end of the hall and hand over Deathroot. His rewards follow the total number delivered, regardless of which roots you collect first.
- After the fourth delivery, a later visit can make Gurranq attack. Damage him until he yields, stop attacking and speak to him. Rest or reload before continuing the deliveries; do not kill him.
- Bring further Deathroot from Tibia Mariner rewards and the Deathroot chests behind dungeon bosses. Hand over 8 in total, then speak to Gurranq to receive Gurranq's Beast Claw.
- Memorize the incantation at a grace and equip a sacred seal to cast it. The reward does not automatically replace one of your memorized spells.
Notes
- Requires 15 Faith, uses one memory slot and costs 21 FP. The outward claws deal Slash Physical damage.
- Creates a circle of ground waves around you rather than Beast Claw's forward fan. This can cover enemies approaching from the sides or behind, but the windup leaves you open before the waves appear.
- The outward wave starts at 225% of incantation scaling before defenses and deals 12 stance damage to enemies. A very close enemy can also be hit by the initial hand strike; the circle's many visible claws are not independent full hits on one large target.
- It cannot be charged. Godfrey Icon does not increase its damage, even though the weaker forward-facing Beast Claw has a charged cast.
- The waves travel along the ground and can be jumped over. The circular coverage does not let them automatically reach an enemy standing above you or beyond a break in the terrain.
- Gurranq teaches it after eight total Deathroot deliveries. It does not replace Beast Claw in your spell list, and it costs more FP than that spell's charged version.
- Clawmark Seal or Cinquedea adds 10% damage while held in an active hand. Holding one of each gives 21% together. You still need a sacred seal to cast; carrying the dagger in an inactive slot does not supply the bonus.
- Its damage uses the casting seal's incantation scaling. Faith supports an ordinary Faith-scaling seal, while Clawmark Seal lets Strength and Faith contribute together. The spell does not gain Strength scaling merely because it throws a rock or claw.
- Physical attack bonuses such as Flame, Grant Me Strength can increase its damage. Magic, Fire and Lightning damage bonuses do not strengthen this Physical attack.
- Defeating Maliketh does not remove Gurranq's remaining Deathroot rewards at Bestial Sanctum. Killing Gurranq there does end the remaining hand-ins.
