In-game description
One of the incantations of the capital's ancient dragon cult.
Summons a bolt of lightning to strike foes from above.
This incantation can be cast repeatedly.
Long ago, Godwyn the Golden defeated the ancient dragon Fortissax, and befriended his fallen foe—an event that gave rise to the ancient dragon cult in the capital.
Where to find
Road south of the Artist's Shack, then Church of Vows
Liurnia of the Lakes
Starting Site of Grace: Artist's Shack
Before you go
- Have 7,000 runes.
- Give Dragon Cult Prayerbook to the teacher you will buy from.
- Reach the eastern Liurnia plateau and find Artist's Shack beside the road. Activate its grace before starting the fight.
- Follow the road south from the shack and look for the lone knight in golden armor patrolling the path.
- Defeat that knight and collect the dropped Dragon Cult Prayerbook. Keep space around you so other enemies do not join while he is using lightning attacks.
- Check the pickup name before returning to the grace. This is the specific knight's book reward, rather than a random drop to farm from every soldier.
- Travel to Church of Vows on eastern Liurnia's plateau. From Artist's Shack in Liurnia, follow the road north and take the uphill branch to the ruined church. Speak to Miriel, the large turtle wearing a white mitre.
- Give Miriel Dragon Cult Prayerbook, open his shop and buy Honed Bolt for 7,000 runes. Giving away the book unlocks the stock; it does not award the spell for free.
Notes
- Requires 24 Faith, one memory slot and a sacred seal. Each cast costs 12 FP, including each quicker follow-up.
- Calls lightning down on the aimed target instead of throwing a visible spear from your hand. Continue casting to use its faster follow-up animation, but stop before you spend the stamina needed to dodge.
- The first cast is slower than the repeated bolts. Start the sequence during a safe opening rather than assuming every cast has the short follow-up timing.
- A moving opponent can leave the impact point before the bolt arrives. Lock-on is useful for aiming, but does not make it a guaranteed hit or an unlimited-range attack through any obstacle.
- Its individual hits provide modest stance pressure. It is useful for keeping ranged pressure on an enemy, but one cast should not be expected to produce the stance break of a large close-range red-lightning attack.
- A strike into water can add a small splash around the impact. This is separate from the main bolt, and nearby enemies still have to be within that small area.
- Brother Corhyn can also teach it after receiving Dragon Cult Prayerbook. Giving the book to either teacher is enough; you do not need to find a second copy for the other shop.
- Damage follows the casting seal's Incantation Scaling. A Faith seal improves through Faith; a hybrid seal can use its other scaling attributes too, while the spell's Faith requirement still has to be met.
- Gravel Stone Seal boosts this Dragon Cult incantation by 15% while held in an active hand, even if a different seal casts it. Two active copies multiply to 32.25%. Death Knight armor adds its separate 2% bonus per piece.
- Lightning damage bonuses apply, but physical- or fire-only bonuses do not. Dragon Communion Seal's school bonus does not apply simply because an ancient dragon is named in the incantation.
- This spell cannot be charged, so Godfrey Icon does not strengthen it. Repeating a cast or having several hits is different from charging.
