Golden Order incantations

In-game description

One of the incantations of the Golden Order fundamentalists.

One of the key fundamentals.

Manifests a small ring of causality within that allows the caster to automatically retaliate upon receiving a certain number of blows.

The fundamentalists describe the Golden Order through the powers of regression and causality. Causality is the pull between meanings; that which links all things in a chain of relation.

Where to find

Gideon's study

Roundtable Hold

Starting Site of Grace: Table of Lost Grace

Before you go

  • Defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood.
  1. Defeat a Shardbearer such as Godrick, then speak to Finger Reader Enia at Roundtable Hold.
  2. Find Varre at Rose Church on an island southwest of Raya Lucaria Academy in Liurnia. Tell him the Two Fingers did not seem right and receive his Festering Bloody Fingers.
  3. Attempt three player invasions, or use the red invasion sign at Writheblood Ruins in Altus Plateau to defeat Magnus the Beast Claw. Defeating Magnus once satisfies this stage without online play.
  4. Return to Varre and accept the anointing to receive Lord of Blood's Favor.
  5. For maiden's blood without killing a friendly NPC, go to the Church of Inhibition in northeastern Liurnia. Follow the uphill route past Frenzied Flame Village, take cover from the tower's Madness and deal with Vyke if he invades.
  6. Interact with the dead maiden seated inside the church to stain the favor. Return to Varre at Rose Church and agree to offer your finger.
  7. After receiving Bloody Finger, continue speaking to Varre. He gives you Pureblood Knight's Medal; do not leave after the finger reward.
  8. Use Pureblood Knight's Medal to reach Mohgwyn Palace. Activate Dynasty Mausoleum Entrance and climb the broad stairs through the bleeding corpses toward the dark mausoleum passage.
  9. Follow the passage upward, watching for the Sanguine Nobles inside. Leave the cave at Dynasty Mausoleum Midpoint and activate the grace.
  10. Continue up the stairs and ride the large lift to Mohg's arena. Defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood to receive his remembrance. Mohg, the Omen in the capital sewers is a separate boss.
  11. Return to Roundtable Hold before Maliketh and enter Gideon's study. Ask about the Lord of Blood's cocoon after defeating Mohg to receive Law of Causality.
  12. If Gideon has already left after Maliketh, buy Law of Causality from the Twin Maiden Husks for 5,000 runes instead.

Notes

  • Requires 29 Intelligence, uses one memory slot and costs 22 FP and 20 stamina. Although it has no Faith requirement, it is an incantation cast with a sacred seal.
  • Places a retaliatory effect on you for 120 seconds. After five damaging hits in quick succession, it releases a Holy explosion around you. Leaving more than about seven seconds between hits breaks the sequence.
  • The explosion has fixed attack power of 487 and deals 7 stance damage before other effects. Increasing Faith, Intelligence or the seal's Incantation Scaling does not increase that base attack power.
  • Holy damage bonuses can improve the explosion. It cannot be charged, so Godfrey Icon does not help, and Shard of Alexander is not an incantation bonus.
  • Completely blocking a hit without taking damage does not build the retaliation in the same way. A shield with slight chip damage can allow guarded hits to count, but you still have to manage the lost health and stamina.
  • It is a small explosion around the caster, not a projectile chasing the attacker. A distant enemy may trigger it through ranged hits while remaining outside the blast.
  • Do not trade away health just to force the effect against a hard-hitting boss. It provides an extra retaliation after qualifying hits, not damage prevention or a safe way to absorb a combo.
  • Gideon gives it after Mohg, Lord of Blood when you discuss the cocoon. Mohg, the Omen in the sewers does not satisfy that reward condition. The Twin Maiden Husks sell it for 5,000 runes after Maliketh if you missed Gideon.
