In-game description
One of the incantations of Dragon Communion.
Transforms caster into a wyrm to spew magma breath.
Allows one follow-up attack.
Those who have performed the Dragon Communion will find their humanity slowly slipping away. Once they fully succumb to their fate, they are left no more than wyrms that crawl the earth.
Where to find
Cathedral of Dragon Communion
Caelid
Starting Site of Grace: Cathedral of Dragon Communion
Before you go
- Bring 1 Dragon Heart.
- From Seethewater Terminus on Mt. Gelmir, follow the route past Fort Laiedd to the lava pool southwest of the fort. Defeat the Magma Wyrm in the pool. Other Magma Wyrms do not unlock this spell.
- From Erdtree-Gazing Hill on Altus Plateau, ride north through Wyndham Ruins and enter the valley beside Mt. Gelmir at Seethewater River. Follow the valley north, then around the mountain toward Seethewater Terminus.
- From Seethewater Terminus, continue past the outside of Fort Laiedd to the lava pool southwest of the fort. Defeat that field Magma Wyrm. Makar at Ruin-Strewn Precipice and the Gael Tunnel wyrm are different encounters and do not unlock this purchase.
- From Summonwater Village in northeastern Limgrave, follow the main road east into Caelid. Stay on the highway as it curves south around the Swamp of Aeonia toward Caelid Highway South.
- Leave the southern road toward the ruined church on the hill south of the swamp. Decaying Ekzykes is near the approach; pass around the dragon if your chosen purchase does not require its defeat.
- Enter Cathedral of Dragon Communion and activate its grace. A Banished Knight patrols the ruins, so clear the immediate area before trying the altar.
- Interact with the red altar and choose the Dragon Communion menu. The price is paid in Dragon Hearts, rather than runes, and purchasing a spell is separate from equipping it at a grace.
- Select Magma Breath and spend 1 Dragon Heart.
Notes
- Spits a Fire-damage glob that leaves burning magma on the ground. The lingering pool can keep damaging an enemy that stays in it.
- Allows one follow-up spit. This is a separate input and further FP expenditure, rather than an endless stream like Dragonfire.
- Aim where the enemy will remain. A target that moves away may take the initial impact without staying in the magma long enough for its extra hits.
- Theodorix's Magma is a stronger and more expensive version, requiring 21 Faith and 14 Arcane instead of this spell's 14 Faith and 10 Arcane.
- The relevant unlock is the field Magma Wyrm near Fort Laiedd. The similarly named boss at Ruin-Strewn Precipice and the wyrm in Gael Tunnel do not unlock it.
- The magma deals Fire damage, not Scarlet Rot, and is reduced by Fire resistance. General spell and Dragon Communion damage bonuses improve damage rather than creating a status effect.
- Cast with a sacred seal. Requires 14 Faith and 10 Arcane, uses 1 memory slot and costs 30 FP to start.
- Roar Medallion improves its direct damage by 10% against enemies and 5% against other players. It does not increase fixed status buildup or debuff percentages.
- Dragon Communion Seal gives a 15% damage bonus while held in an active hand, even if another seal performs the cast. Its damage scaling uses Faith and Arcane; a different seal uses its own attributes.
- Rock Heart's activated Dragon Communion bonus and bonuses for the spell's actual damage type improve the direct attack. They do not raise fixed status buildup or turn missed breath hits into guaranteed damage.
