In-game description

A Great Rune of the shardbearer Rykard.

Its blessing restores HP upon defeating enemies.

Rykard was amongst the children of Rennala and Radagon, who became demigod stepchildren after Radagon's union with Queen Marika.

But Rykard fed himself to the blasphemous serpent, Great Rune and all.

Where to find

Rykard, then Divine Tower of West Altus

Mt. Gelmir / Capital Outskirts

Starting Site of Grace: Divine Tower of West Altus: Gate

  1. Finish the Volcano Manor contracts and dialogue rewards you want before defeating God-Devouring Serpent and Rykard in his arena. Their victory awards Rykard's Great Rune, but its blessing still needs restoration.
  2. From Outer Wall Phantom Tree in the Capital Outskirts, descend east-southeast into the depressed lakebed beside Leyndell's walls. Follow the southern shore to Sealed Tunnel and activate its grace.
  3. Strike or roll into the false wall beside the torch on the room's western side. Follow the right side of the revealed mining room down to the chest holding Smithing-Stone Miner's Bell Bearing [2].
  4. The chest is not the end of the dungeon. Strike the false wall directly behind it, follow the passage and ride the lift down.
  5. Beyond the lift, reveal the next false wall, then continue over the roots to another false wall at the apparent end of the passage. Open it to reach the large root-filled chamber.
  6. Use the broad roots and wooden landings to cross the chamber toward the far passage. Watch for Vulgar Militia ambushers. Dropping to the Abductor Virgin on the bottom floor is an optional detour.
  7. When thick roots appear to block the next room, look for the opening in the floor on your right. Drop through it rather than searching for a way to climb over the roots.
  8. Move away from the exploding stone clusters on the lower floor. Head southeast and strike the false wall to reveal the final descending shaft.
  9. Use the visible roots and stone ledges as individual landings down the shaft. Do not jump straight from the upper opening to the bottom. Enter the boss chamber after reaching the lower passage.
  10. Defeat the Onyx Lord, then take the exit behind its arena. Activate Divine Tower of West Altus: Gate and open the tower doors. They remain shut if Rykard has not been defeated.
  11. Ride the tower lift up, climb the remaining stairs and interact with the glowing rune at the dead Two Fingers. Rest at a grace afterward, equip Rykard's Great Rune and use a Rune Arc to activate the blessing.

Notes

  • While active, restores 80 HP plus 7% of maximum HP when you defeat an enemy.
  • It needs a kill to heal you. It does not provide steady regeneration while fighting a single surviving boss.
  • After restoring it, rest at a Site of Grace, equip the Great Rune and use a Rune Arc to activate its blessing.
  • The blessing ends when you die. You keep the rune, but need another Rune Arc to activate it again.
  • Obtaining or restoring the rune does not permanently add the listed stats to your character.
  • At 2,000 maximum HP, each qualifying kill restores 220 HP before any healing modifiers. A weak enemy can therefore provide the same base recovery as a stronger one when your maximum HP is unchanged.
  • The recovery can combine with a separate compatible on-kill healing effect. It does not convert the weapon you are holding into a health-stealing weapon on every hit.
  • You must earn and restore this Great Rune again in a new Journey. The permanent item is not kept the way a purchased weapon or talisman is.
