In-game description
Superior incantation taught by Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman.
Hurls a boulder before the caster.
This incantation can be cast repeatedly.
Long ago, Gurranq was a beast of such terrifying ferocity that his former name meant "Death of the Demigods."
Where to find
Bestial Sanctum
Greyoll's Dragonbarrow
Starting Site of Grace: Bestial Sanctum
Before you go
- Give Gurranq 6 Deathroot in total.
- For an early start, follow the road east from Saintsbridge to Summonwater Village in northeastern Limgrave. Defeat the boat-riding Tibia Mariner among the flooded ruins and collect its Deathroot.
- Find Third Church of Marika in eastern Limgrave. Search the vegetation beside the stream behind the church for the sending gate. D can mark it after you show him a Deathroot, but speaking to him is optional.
- Use the gate to reach Bestial Sanctum, enter the large doors behind the arrival point and activate the grace inside. The Black Blade Kindred outside does not need to be fought.
- Speak to Gurranq at the far end of the hall and hand over Deathroot. His rewards follow the total number delivered, regardless of which roots you collect first.
- After the fourth delivery, a later visit can make Gurranq attack. Damage him until he yields, stop attacking and speak to him. Rest or reload before continuing the deliveries; do not kill him.
- Bring further Deathroot from Tibia Mariner rewards and the Deathroot chests behind dungeon bosses. Hand over 6 in total, then speak to Gurranq to receive Stone of Gurranq.
- Memorize the incantation at a grace and equip a sacred seal to cast it. The reward does not automatically replace one of your memorized spells.
Notes
- Requires 13 Faith, uses one memory slot and costs 15 FP. The boulder deals Standard Physical damage rather than Strike or Magic damage.
- The impact starts at 245% of incantation scaling before defenses and deals 14.4 stance damage to enemies. Its small impact area can catch nearby targets, but it is not a large room-clearing explosion.
- Repeat the cast input to throw successive boulders with a shorter follow-up motion. Each throw still spends FP and stamina; it is not a single payment for the whole sequence.
- The boulder has little tracking and a visible falling arc. Aim ahead of a moving enemy or release lock-on to place a throw, and keep walls and low ceilings out of its path.
- It cannot be charged. Holding the input does not create a stronger boulder, and Godfrey Icon does not improve the cast.
- Gurranq teaches it after six total Deathroot deliveries. It is a reward for turning roots in, rather than a spell dropped by killing him.
- Clawmark Seal or Cinquedea adds 10% damage while held in an active hand. Holding one of each gives 21% together. You still need a sacred seal to cast; carrying the dagger in an inactive slot does not supply the bonus.
- Its damage uses the casting seal's incantation scaling. Faith supports an ordinary Faith-scaling seal, while Clawmark Seal lets Strength and Faith contribute together. The spell does not gain Strength scaling merely because it throws a rock or claw.
- Physical attack bonuses such as Flame, Grant Me Strength can increase its damage. Magic, Fire and Lightning damage bonuses do not strengthen this Physical attack.
- Defeating Maliketh does not remove Gurranq's remaining Deathroot rewards at Bestial Sanctum. Killing Gurranq there does end the remaining hand-ins.
