In-game description

Superior incantation of Dragon Communion.

Channels the power of the great wyrm Theodorix.

Transforms caster into a great wyrm to spew a large volume of magma breath.

Allows one follow-up attack.

The name of the ancient troll warrior Theodorix lives on—as a hero of the War against the Giants.

Where to find

Cathedral of Dragon Communion

Caelid

Starting Site of Grace: Cathedral of Dragon Communion

Before you go

  • Bring 2 Dragon Hearts.
  • Reach Consecrated Snowfield using both Haligtree Secret Medallion halves at the Grand Lift of Rold. Follow the frozen river east to the area outside Cave of the Forlorn and defeat Great Wyrm Theodorix.
  1. Obtain the right Haligtree Secret Medallion half from Albus in the Village of the Albinaurics. He is disguised as a pot on the uphill path, before the bridge leading toward the Omenkiller.
  2. Obtain the left half from the tower beyond Commander Niall at Castle Sol in the northern Mountaintops. After winning, continue behind his arena, ride the lift and loot the rooftop corpse.
  3. Return to Grand Lift of Rold with both halves and switch to the secret-medallion prompt. The ordinary Rold Medallion sends you to a different destination.
  4. Take the main stairs through Hidden Path to the Haligtree and leave into Consecrated Snowfield. Continue north through the blizzard, following the road toward Inner Consecrated Snowfield, then on to Ordina, Liturgical Town.
  5. From Inner Consecrated Snowfield, head northeast to the frozen river and follow it east. Great Wyrm Theodorix is outside Cave of the Forlorn near the river's eastern end. Defeat him in the open; the cave's imp seal and boss are unnecessary.
  6. From Summonwater Village in northeastern Limgrave, follow the main road east into Caelid. Stay on the highway as it curves south around the Swamp of Aeonia toward Caelid Highway South.
  7. Leave the southern road toward the ruined church on the hill south of the swamp. Decaying Ekzykes is near the approach; pass around the dragon if your chosen purchase does not require its defeat.
  8. Enter Cathedral of Dragon Communion and activate its grace. A Banished Knight patrols the ruins, so clear the immediate area before trying the altar.
  9. Interact with the red altar and choose the Dragon Communion menu. The price is paid in Dragon Hearts, rather than runes, and purchasing a spell is separate from equipping it at a grace.
  10. Select Theodorix's Magma and spend 2 Dragon Hearts.

Notes

  • Spits a large Fire-damage glob that leaves a lingering magma pool. It has stronger damage than Magma Breath but costs more FP and requires more Faith and Arcane.
  • Allows one follow-up spit with another input. Budget FP for the second attack instead of treating 45 FP as an automatic full combo.
  • Its damage includes the impact and any later magma hits that connect. Large or stationary enemies are more likely to stay in the pool than enemies that immediately jump or retreat.
  • The pool is Fire damage, rather than rot or a special percentage-health burn. Fire resistance still matters.
  • Great Wyrm Theodorix unlocks the purchase, and the two-heart payment is separate from defeating him. The boss inside Cave of the Forlorn is unnecessary.
  • Its greater damage does not make it a universal replacement for Magma Breath. The cheaper version leaves more FP for another cast or defensive action.
  • Cast with a sacred seal. Requires 21 Faith and 14 Arcane, uses 1 memory slot and costs 45 FP to start.
  • Roar Medallion improves its direct damage by 10% against enemies and 5% against other players. It does not increase fixed status buildup or debuff percentages.
  • Dragon Communion Seal gives a 15% damage bonus while held in an active hand, even if another seal performs the cast. Its damage scaling uses Faith and Arcane; a different seal uses its own attributes.
  • Rock Heart's activated Dragon Communion bonus and bonuses for the spell's actual damage type improve the direct attack. They do not raise fixed status buildup or turn missed breath hits into guaranteed damage.
