Where to find
Ainsel River
Starting Site of Grace: Nokstella, Eternal City
Before you go
- Reach Nokstella. Ranni's quest opens the portal in Renna's Rise after you give Ranni the Fingerslayer Blade.
- Start at Caria Manor in northwestern Liurnia. Defeat Royal Knight Loretta and enter Three Sisters behind the manor. Visit Ranni at the top of Ranni's Rise and agree to serve her. Speak to the spirits downstairs, then return to Ranni to finish the conversation.
- Defeat Starscourge Radahn at Redmane Castle. Return to southern Mistwood and find the new crater near Fort Haight, marked by floating rocks. Descend using its ledges and enter Nokron, Eternal City.
- Work across Nokron's rooftops to the streets and continue to Mimic Tear. Defeat it and cross the long bridge beyond its arena. Leave the bridge on the left into the woods, then follow the cliff to Ancestral Woods grace.
- Jump from the cliff beside that grace onto the roof below. Follow the rooftops and narrow building ledges into Night's Sacred Ground. Continue across the broken stone arch into the church, descend inside, and leave onto the lower street. Follow that street to the enormous seated figure and open the chest underneath it for Fingerslayer Blade.
- Return the blade to Ranni at her tower. Before doing this, finish any remaining Seluvis rewards you want. Rest after speaking to Ranni, then visit Renna's Rise, the northern tower in Three Sisters. Climb it and use the sending gate to Ainsel River Main.
- Collect Miniature Ranni from the coffin near where you arrive. Rest at Ainsel River Main and select Talk to miniature Ranni repeatedly until she answers. Finish her dialogue.
- Follow the river through Uhl Palace Ruins, using pillars as cover from the hanging creature's projectiles. Continue through the ant tunnel to Nokstella, Eternal City and activate its first grace. The upper-city chest is before Nokstella Waterfall Basin.
- From that grace, climb the broad stairs on the western side of the city. At the first landing, enter the room on the left, on the southern side of the stairway.
- A Nox Swordstress guards the room. Defeat her and open the chest inside to collect Ant's Skull Plate. You do not need to finish the upper city to reach this chest.
Notes
- A greatshield requiring 28 Strength and weighing 12.5. Standard protection is 100% physical, 57% Magic, Lightning and Holy, and 42% Fire, with 70 base Guard Boost.
- Its unusually high hardness makes more weapon attacks rebound than an ordinary greatshield, including qualifying one-handed attacks from larger weapons. Hardness does not make every boss swing bounce or prevent stamina loss.
- Adds 60 Immunity while held in an active hand, increasing resistance to Poison and Scarlet Rot buildup. It does not cure an active ailment, grant immunity to either status or require you to block for the resistance bonus.
- Shield attacks apply 90 ordinary Poison buildup. Blocking by itself does not poison the attacker, and enemies immune to Poison remain immune.
- The Poison normally drains 0.07% of maximum HP plus 7 HP per second for 90 seconds. This is ordinary Poison, rather than the faster deadly version used by Coil Shield.
- Its attacks scale with Strength and have no Arcane scaling. More Arcane alone does not raise its innate Poison buildup.
- Upgrade with Somber Smithing Stones to +10. Shield Bash is fixed and costs 10 FP; its skill and affinity cannot be replaced.
- A fixed Somber skill does not prevent defensive Shield Grease or a shield-buff spell. Those defensive effects are separate from ordinary offensive weapon coatings.
