Capital Outskirts

Starting Site of Grace: Outer Wall Battleground

Before you go

  • Reach the Capital Outskirts.
  1. Reach Altus Plateau through Dectus or Ruin-Strewn Precipice and follow the eastern highway through the capital outskirts to Outer Wall Battleground.
  2. From Outer Wall Battleground, follow the outer road east and then northeast toward Leyndell's entrance. Pass the archer golems and approach the mounted Draconic Tree Sentinel guarding the gate.
  3. Defeat him to receive Dragonclaw Shield and Dragon Greatclaw. The mounted sentinel outside Maliketh's room in Farum Azula does not drop this shield.

Notes

  • Requires 28 Strength and 12 Dexterity, and weighs 13.5. It starts with 70 Guard Boost and blocks all Physical damage from a successful guarded hit.
  • Lightning protection is 76%, compared with 52% Magic, 52% Fire and 47% Holy. The Lightning resistance is useful against its original owner, but blocking still costs stamina.
  • Shield attacks deal Physical and Lightning damage. Strength has stronger Physical scaling than Dexterity; Dexterity contributes to both Physical and Lightning damage. Faith does not improve its Lightning damage.
  • Deals 30% extra damage to ordinary dragons and 15% extra damage to ancient dragons. These bonuses affect attacks with the shield, not every attack made while carrying it.
  • Shield Bash costs 10 FP and is fixed. Its ordinary bash is different from the enemy's ranged red-lightning attacks; carrying the shield does not give you those attacks.
  • Upgrade it with Somber Smithing Stones to +10. Its Ash of War and affinity cannot be changed.
  • The Draconic Tree Sentinel guarding the northeastern capital entrance guarantees this shield together with Dragon Greatclaw. The later sentinel outside Maliketh does not drop another copy.
