Starting Site of Grace: The Four Belfries

Before you go

You can earn this by defeating the Grafted Scion during the opening visit. If it defeated you, return through The Four Belfries as follows.
Follow the road along western Liurnia to Foot of the Four Belfries grace. At the fork, take the uphill path northeast through the spirit jellyfish and Troll Knights.
Keep climbing east and then uphill toward the four bell towers. Activate The Four Belfries grace at the highest part of the hill and open the nearby chest for an Imbued Sword Key.
Walk downhill to the eastern sending gate with the inscription Precipice of Anticipation. Read the inscription before using the key: the other gates lead to different isolated areas.
Spend one Imbued Sword Key at its imp statue and use the gate. An ordinary Stonesword Key will not work here.
Follow the island path and bridge to the original Grafted Scion courtyard. Defeat it if it survived your first visit; it drops Ornamental Straight Sword and Golden Beast Crest Shield together.

Needs 24 Strength and weighs 10.5, making it a relatively light greatshield. Its starting Guard Boost is 63.
Standard affinity blocks 100% of physical damage from a successfully guarded hit. Blocking still costs stamina, and a broken guard can leave you open to a critical attack.
Its elemental block is 55% for Magic, Fire and Holy, and 48% for Lightning. An elemental component can still deal chip damage through a physical block.
Has No Skill, so a right-hand weapon's skill remains available with the shield held in your left hand. Its greatshield class can also make some lighter enemy attacks bounce when blocked.
Upgrade it with Smithing Stones to +25. Can use compatible shield Ashes of War and available affinities; changing affinity can change its guard percentages.
Its golden appearance does not give it Faith scaling, HP regeneration or a separate Holy-damage buff.
The Chapel of Anticipation Grafted Scion drops it together with Ornamental Straight Sword. The other Grafted Scions are not a repeatable source of this shield.
