About this Ash of War

Put this on an eligible left-hand shield or torch to use your right-hand weapon skill without changing your grip. It removes the off-hand skill, rather than adding a new attack.

The shield can still block and the torch still gives light. Removing Parry or Shield Bash does not remove those ordinary functions.

Using No Skill itself costs no FP. Your right-hand skill still has its own normal cost.

In-game description

This Ash of War grants no affinity to an armament and replaces any skill present with the following:

"No skill: This armament has no skill. If the armament in the other hand has a skill, that skill will be used instead."

Usable on shields and torches.

Before you go

Have 600 runes.
Visit during the day.

From Gatefront, follow the road uphill through Stormgate to Stormhill Shack. Turn east along the road through the woods to Warmaster's Shack.
Speak to Knight Bernahl inside during the day, open his skill shop and buy No Skill for 600 runes. His shop has one copy.
If Bernahl has moved to Volcano Manor, use his drawing-room shop. Once he leaves the manor, examine the sword at his chair for the established shop.
If you already have Bernahl's Bell Bearing, give it to the Twin Maiden Husks to buy his remaining stock. Killing him is unnecessary and cuts off his later quest rewards.

Notes

You can remove the Ash later to restore the equipment's original skill. Applying it does not permanently erase that skill.
It does not make a fixed-skill shield or torch customizable. Some equipment already has No Skill built in and needs no change.
Can use this Ash of War on compatible equipment in these classes: Small Shield, Medium Shield, Greatshield, Torch, Thrusting Shield. Fixed-skill equipment is excluded.
The default affinity is Standard. Additional affinities depend on the weapon and your whetblades; a class appearing in the compatibility list does not mean every weapon in that class supports every affinity.
