About this Ash of War
Costs 12 FP for the attack. Hold to extend the rush to as many as four rushing contacts before the final bash; the extra distance does not require repeated 12 FP payments, but it uses more stamina.
Damage comes from the shield's own attack power and scaling. A heavier-looking shield does not automatically outperform an upgraded shield with better damage for your attributes.
The early rushing contacts apply only 10% of the shield's innate status buildup each. The fourth rush and finishing bash apply full buildup. A complete five-hit charge therefore does not apply five full hits of bleed, poison or Madness.

In-game description
This Ash of War grants no affinity to an armament, but imparts the following skill:
"Shield Crash: Two-hand the shield and charge forwards while maintaining guard. Weaker enemies will be shoved backwards and can even be staggered. Hold to extend the duration of the charge forwards."
Usable on all shields.
Where to find
Lux Ruins
Altus Plateau
Starting Site of Grace: Erdtree-Gazing Hill
- Reach Erdtree-Gazing Hill in western Altus Plateau, above the abandoned-carriage area.
- Climb toward Lux Ruins, the broken stone buildings on the hillside near the grace. Watch for the Demi-Humans around the walls.
- Find the scarab inside the ruined buildings and kill it to receive Shield Crash. You do not need to enter the basement or defeat Demi-Human Queen Gilika.
Notes
- Costs 12 FP for the attack. Hold to extend the rush to as many as four rushing contacts before the final bash; the extra distance does not require repeated 12 FP payments, but it uses more stamina.
- Damage comes from the shield's own attack power and scaling. A heavier-looking shield does not automatically outperform an upgraded shield with better damage for your attributes.
- The early rushing contacts apply only 10% of the shield's innate status buildup each. The fourth rush and finishing bash apply full buildup. A complete five-hit charge therefore does not apply five full hits of bleed, poison or Madness.
- Flat damage from a compatible weapon coating is also reduced on the early rushes, though not by the same amount as status buildup. Damage and ailment buildup should not be treated as identical multipliers.
- The rush guards while moving, but it can be guard-broken if incoming attacks empty your stamina. Shield Bash's protection against that specific guard break does not carry over to Shield Crash.
- It is best used when the target stays in your path long enough for the later contacts. Smaller enemies can be pushed out of reach, and an extended rush near a cliff or into several attackers can leave you in a worse position.
- Shard of Alexander improves the damaging hits. Holding the charge does not give it a Godfrey Icon bonus. Repeated-hit bonuses can build during the sequence, but their damage bonus does not directly raise status buildup.
- The scarab is among the upper Lux Ruins buildings above Erdtree-Gazing Hill. The basement boss, Demi-Human Queen Gilika, is unrelated and does not need to be defeated.
- Compatible weapon classes: Small Shield, Medium Shield, Greatshield, Thrusting Shield. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
- Its default affinity is Standard. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Fire, Flame Art, Lightning, Sacred, Magic, Cold, Poison, Blood and Occult; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
