Crumbling Farum Azula

Starting Site of Grace: Dragon Temple Rooftop

Before you go

  • Reach Crumbling Farum Azula.
  1. Defeat Fire Giant and progress through Crumbling Farum Azula to the Godskin Duo. Continue beyond Dragon Temple Altar through the later ruins to Dragon Temple Rooftop; the chest is on the lower side route near the lightning-calling Ancient Dragon.
  2. From Dragon Temple Rooftop, descend the ladder and follow the main route south through the Stormhawks toward the Ancient Dragon calling down lightning.
  3. Near the dragon, look to the left toward the northeastern cliff edge. Find the floating rocks leading down to the separate building and descend across them carefully.
  4. Enter the courtyard guarded by a Banished Knight and Stormhawks. Clear the enemies and climb the ladder to the upper level.
  5. Turn left at the top and follow the building around to the chest guarded by another Banished Knight. Open it for Dragon Towershield.
  6. Loot the chest before leaving this lower detour. The dragon's smithing-stone reward, the gazebo pickup and the separate Dragon Knight armor chest are different rewards.

Notes

  • Requires 30 Strength and weighs 16.5. Standard affinity provides 100% physical protection and 71 base Guard Boost.
  • Standard Fire protection is 67%, Holy 64%, Magic 61% and Lightning 55%. The dragon design does not grant extra damage against dragons or an innate Lightning attack.
  • Shield Bash is the default and costs 10 FP. Can use compatible Ashes of War, including No Skill if you prefer your right-hand skill.
  • Its Standard shield attacks scale with Strength. Elemental affinities change attack scaling and guarding separately; they are not free additions to every Standard defense.
  • The shield is in a chest on the lower side route beside the lightning-calling dragon. It is not the dragon's drop, and it is separate from the nearby Dragon Knight armor chest.
  • Clear or draw away the Banished Knights before opening the chest. The lower detour has narrow ledges and several attacks that can knock you off while you try to loot.
  • Upgrade with Smithing Stones to +25. Defensive Shield Grease or a compatible shield-buff spell can improve guarding separately from offensive weapon coatings. Reinforcement does not remove chip damage from an incompletely blocked damage type.
