Large crossbow made from composite materials. One of the largest of all bolt-firing devices.

Its limbs are more pliable than metallic ones, allowing bolts fired from this weapon to pierce even helms forged of steel.

Starting Site of Grace: Rampart Tower

Before you go

  • Reach Rampart Tower inside Stormveil Castle.
  1. Reach Rampart Tower by Stormveil's side entrance after Margit. The upper stairs inside the tower lead toward this rooftop route; the lower Warhawk rampart is a different way into the castle.
  2. Leave Rampart Tower through the southeastern doorway and take the stairs on your right to the tower roof. Clear the enemies, climb onto the low wall, and jump right onto the neighboring tower.
  3. Go inside that tower and through its window onto the roof. Turn left, then follow the ledge on your right. Drop to the lower section and go behind the knights to the wooden footbridge.
  4. Cross the footbridge and take the ladder on the right down. Kill the two soldiers below, then approach the next footbridge. Jump from it toward the nearby ballista emplacement.
  5. Deal with the ballista operator and follow the rocks south. Jump over the wall into the second ballista position. The Arbalest is on the corpse beside that second operator.

Notes

  • Its damage does not scale with any attribute. The 18 Strength and 12 Dexterity are equipment requirements, so raising those stats farther does not directly increase the crossbow's damage.
  • It hits harder than Heavy Crossbow at the same upgrade level, but weighs 6 rather than 5.5 and has higher requirements. That is a damage-versus-weight choice, not a reason to invest in extra Strength for scaling.
  • Uses ordinary crossbow bolts. Load before firing and leave time to reload; the weapon does not turn a single loaded bolt into a repeating attack.
  • Kick is fixed. You cannot replace it with another Ash of War, change the affinity, or apply grease or a weapon enchantment.
  • Upgrade it with Smithing Stones, up to +25.
  • Its bolts supply any elemental damage or status buildup. Raising Intelligence, Faith or Arcane does not give the crossbow a new attribute scaling.
  • Its listed range is 42, compared with 47 on Crepus's Black-Key Crossbow. The larger body gives strong single-shot Physical damage rather than the longest crossbow range.
  • You can keep it loaded for a quick shot while carrying a melee weapon in the other hand. Loading still leaves an opening, and accurate manual aiming requires two-handing.
  • The corpse is behind the second explosive-ballista position. Taking the rooftop approach avoids charging straight up the main gate's firing lane.
