Starting Site of Grace: Table of Lost Grace
Before you go
- Unlock Roundtable Hold and bring one Stonesword Key.
- From Roundtable Hold's central room, go down the corridor to Smithing Master Hewg. Take the stairs beside his area down into the lower hallway.
- Find the first fog barrier with an imp statue and use one Stonesword Key to open it.
- Go inside and open the chest for Crepus's Black-Key Crossbow. The second barrier farther along leads to a different reward and is not needed for this weapon.
Notes
- It has no attribute damage scaling. Its 14 Strength and 16 Dexterity requirements let you use it properly, but extra points in those stats do not directly improve its damage.
- Its long-range design is useful for sniping. It still uses crossbow bolts; the Black-Key name does not restrict it to one special ammunition type.
- Black-Key Bolts inflict Scarlet Rot, but that effect belongs to the ammunition. The crossbow itself does not give every ordinary bolt Scarlet Rot.
- Kick is fixed, and you cannot change its affinity or apply grease or a weapon enchantment.
- Upgrade it with Somber Smithing Stones, up to +10. The crossbow and the Black-Key Bolts found with it are separate items, so carrying the weapon does not provide unlimited rot ammunition.
- Its listed range is 47 instead of the ordinary crossbows' 42, and it weighs five. Arrow's Reach Talisman or Arrow's Soaring Sting Talisman can improve projectile travel further, but those two range bonuses do not stack.
- The chest also supplies 20 Black-Key Bolts. Those are finite Scarlet Rot ammunition, not a recipe or a replenishing supply attached to the weapon.
- You can load it before a fight and fire one-handed beside another weapon. Use two hands for manual aiming; the long-range design does not remove the reload after each shot.
