About this Ash of War

Costs 22 FP and carries you into a diving weapon attack. Most compatible weapons perform one thrust, while twinblades use an eight-hit spinning dive.

Damage uses the equipped weapon's attack power. Choosing Sacred adds Holy damage and Faith scaling to that weapon; keeping a physical affinity lets its ordinary physical attributes remain useful.

The normal dive's physical damage type depends on the weapon; it does not force every compatible weapon to deal Pierce damage. The twinblade spin keeps its normal physical damage type and divides damage across several contacts, which do not all land reliably against a small or moving target.

In-game description

This Ash of War grants an armament the Sacred affinity and the following skill:

"Aspects of the Crucible (Wings): This skill originates from the lifeforms of the Crucible. Grow a golden pair of wings and take to the air before diving down at the foe, weapon first. A spinning attack is performed when wielding a twinblade."

Usable on swords as well as polearms capable of thrusting (colossal weapons excepted).

Where to find

Fort of Reprimand

Scadu Altus

Starting Site of Grace: Moorth Highway, South

  1. From Moorth Ruins in Scadu Altus, follow the highway south. Ride around the soldiers fighting the Ghostflame Dragon and continue through the passage at the southern end of their battlefield.
  2. Activate Moorth Highway, South grace in front of Fort of Reprimand, then enter the fort's main gate. Deal with the courtyard Omenkiller or draw it away before exploring the gallows and doorways.
  3. Take the doorway at the back-right corner of the courtyard. Follow the interior passage to the stairs leading upward; the parallel lower path and cage rooms lead to other loot.
  4. Climb the stairs to the upper wall. At the top, turn back toward the stairs and take the further steps to Fort of Reprimand grace so you have a nearby checkpoint.
  5. Return to the top of the first stairs and enter the large hall ahead. Defeat Black Knight Edredd inside, watching for his flying twinblade dive.
  6. Defeat Black Knight Edredd in the upper hall to receive Aspects of the Crucible: Wings. The two ladders and cookbook chest beyond him are separate optional loot.

Notes

  • Costs 22 FP and carries you into a diving weapon attack. Most compatible weapons perform one thrust, while twinblades use an eight-hit spinning dive.
  • Damage uses the equipped weapon's attack power. Choosing Sacred adds Holy damage and Faith scaling to that weapon; keeping a physical affinity lets its ordinary physical attributes remain useful.
  • The normal dive's physical damage type depends on the weapon; it does not force every compatible weapon to deal Pierce damage. The twinblade spin keeps its normal physical damage type and divides damage across several contacts, which do not all land reliably against a small or moving target.
  • The ordinary dive applies the weapon's status buildup once. Each twinblade contact applies 40% of the listed buildup, so eight contacts do not apply eight full doses.
  • Grease or a weapon enchantment can be applied while using an affinity that allows weapon buffs. The skill's contacts can carry that coating, but Sacred and Lightning affinities do not become grease-compatible just because the skill moves the weapon through the air.
  • Crucible armor pieces each add 4% to qualifying damage, giving about 16.99% with four pieces. The Holy component does not receive that armor bonus against other players.
  • Shard of Alexander strengthens the skill, and the repeated twinblade contacts can build repeated-hit bonuses. This is not a chargeable skill, so Godfrey Icon adds no charged-skill bonus.
  • Taking flight helps avoid some low attacks and ground shockwaves, but leaves parts of you vulnerable. It does not give complete invulnerability, and the forward dive can carry you toward an unsafe ledge.
  • Use it through the equipped weapon without a staff, seal or spell slot. Black Knight Edredd drops the Ash in Fort of Reprimand; the similarly named Crucible incantations are separate spells.
  • Compatible weapon classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Throwing Blade, Light Greatsword, Great Katana. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
  • Its default affinity is Sacred. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Lightning and Sacred; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
