About this Ash of War

Costs 9 FP and uses your direction input to choose the side of the evasive dash. The attack follows the movement, so allow room beside the enemy before committing.

The goring hit bypasses an opponent's guard. It is not a critical backstab and does not guarantee a hit against a dodging enemy or one whose swing still covers your landing position.

Damage comes from the weapon's attack power and affinity. It applies the weapon's status buildup on contact, so an appropriate Blood or Poison setup can use that contact without turning the dash itself into a separate status cloud.

In-game description

This Ash of War grants an armament the Keen affinity and the following skill:

"Blind Spot: Leap into close quarters to take advantage of the enemy's blind spot and gore them from the side. Inputs determine which side you strike from. This attack slips below the opponent's guard."

Usable on backhand blades.

Where to find

Backhand Blade pickup north of Scorched Ruins

Gravesite Plain

Starting Site of Grace: Three-Path Cross

  1. From the start of the expansion, ride north past Scorched Ruins. Look northeast of those ruins for the small stone structure and coffin guarded by inquisitors.
  2. Alternatively, ride east-southeast from Three-Path Cross toward that structure. Stay in the open plain rather than entering Belurat.
  3. Loot the Backhand Blade from the coffin. Blind Spot comes attached as its removable Ash.
  4. Once you can change Ashes at a grace, remove or move it through the equipment menu if you want to use it on another eligible backhand blade.

Notes

  • Costs 9 FP and uses your direction input to choose the side of the evasive dash. The attack follows the movement, so allow room beside the enemy before committing.
  • The goring hit bypasses an opponent's guard. It is not a critical backstab and does not guarantee a hit against a dodging enemy or one whose swing still covers your landing position.
  • Damage comes from the weapon's attack power and affinity. It applies the weapon's status buildup on contact, so an appropriate Blood or Poison setup can use that contact without turning the dash itself into a separate status cloud.
  • Backhand Blade uses a piercing hit with this skill, while Smithscript Cirque uses a slashing hit. The Spear Talisman's piercing counterattack bonus therefore is not a universal bonus for every weapon using Blind Spot.
  • Shard of Alexander improves the skill's damage. Godfrey Icon does not: there is no charged version, and choosing a direction does not charge the attack.
  • The evasive window is shorter against players than against ordinary enemies. Being briefly invisible does not protect the entire attack animation or clear existing status effects.
  • You need enough FP and the weapon's required attributes for the proper version. The weakened attempt loses the normal guard-bypassing and evasive benefits.
  • Backhand Blade comes with the removable Ash already fitted. Removing it does not destroy the weapon; installing it again lets you select another compatible affinity while keeping the skill.
  • Compatible weapon classes: Backhand Blade. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
  • Its default affinity is Keen. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Fire, Flame Art, Lightning, Sacred, Magic, Cold, Poison, Blood and Occult; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
