About this Ash of War

The opening attack costs 3 FP and sacrifices 4% of maximum HP. Further chained attacks cost another 3 FP each without repeating the opening wound.

Repeated skill inputs continue throwing blood blades. Once you stop and start a fresh sequence, the initial HP cost applies again, so several short sequences cost more health than one uninterrupted chain.

The projectile deals physical Standard damage. Its damage improves with weapon reinforcement and Arcane rather than the ordinary Strength or Dexterity attack power of the weapon carrying it.

Where to find

Flying scarab in the gully northeast of Erdtree-Gazing Hill

Altus Plateau

Starting Site of Grace: Erdtree-Gazing Hill

  1. Reach Altus Plateau with the complete Dectus Medallion, or defeat Magma Wyrm Makar through Ruin-Strewn Precipice. Activate Erdtree-Gazing Hill beside the lower Lux Ruins near the precipice exit.
  2. Ride northeast from the grace into the shallow wooded gully leading toward Wyndham Ruins and the Shaded Castle valley. Look above the pond among the trees rather than inside Lux Ruins.
  3. Look above the water and rocks for the stationary flying scarab. It is easier to bring down with a bow or spell than to chase underneath it.
  4. Hit it from range, then finish it before it escapes to receive Blood Blade. No dungeon or Shaded Castle boss is required.

Notes

  • The opening attack costs 3 FP and sacrifices 4% of maximum HP. Further chained attacks cost another 3 FP each without repeating the opening wound.
  • Repeated skill inputs continue throwing blood blades. Once you stop and start a fresh sequence, the initial HP cost applies again, so several short sequences cost more health than one uninterrupted chain.
  • The projectile deals physical Standard damage. Its damage improves with weapon reinforcement and Arcane rather than the ordinary Strength or Dexterity attack power of the weapon carrying it.
  • The projectile has 60 base Blood Loss buildup, with its own Arcane scaling. Poison and Blood affinities give slightly weaker projectile Arcane scaling than the other supported affinities.
  • At close range, the weapon swing and projectile can both hit. The weapon contact uses the weapon's own damage and can apply its eligible status effects; a distant projectile does not carry every status or grease from the weapon.
  • The opening wound is direct HP loss, not a Blood Loss proc. It does not activate White Mask or Lord of Blood's Exultation by itself.
  • Reduvia Blood Blade is a different fixed skill with its own damage, buildup and costs. This transferable version has an initial HP sacrifice that Reduvia's version does not.
  • Shard of Alexander and qualifying Ansbach clothing improve eligible skill damage. Holding the input does not create a charged attack for Godfrey Icon.
  • The scarab flies above the small pond northeast of Erdtree-Gazing Hill. A ranged attack is easier than trying to reach it with a short sword, and Elemer inside the Shaded Castle is unnecessary.
  • Compatible weapon classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Curved Sword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Throwing Blade, Backhand Blade, Light Greatsword. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
  • Its default affinity is Blood. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Poison, Blood and Occult; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
