About this Ash of War
Costs 6 FP and 5% of maximum HP plus 50 HP each time you perform it. At 2,000 maximum HP, that is 150 HP. The self-damage can kill you, and reducing FP costs does not reduce this HP cost.
The blood arc deals physical Standard damage, rather than Fire or Magic damage. Its damage improves with weapon reinforcement and Arcane, independently of the weapon's ordinary Strength or Dexterity attack scaling.
The arc has 60 base Blood Loss buildup, which also improves with Arcane. It does not inherit the weapon's other status buildup or the added buildup from a weapon coating.

In-game description
This Ash of War grants an armament the Blood affinity and the following skill:
"Bloody Slash: Blood Oath skill granted by the Lord of Blood. From a low stance, coat the blade in your own blood to unleash a rending blood slash in a wide arc."
Usable on swords (colossal weapons excepted).
Where to find
Knight on Fort Haight's ramparts
Limgrave
Starting Site of Grace: Fort Haight West
- From Mistwood Outskirts in eastern Limgrave, follow the main road south through the forest toward its southeastern coast. Fort Haight stands beyond the trees; activate Fort Haight West before climbing the approach.
- Follow the defended path toward the fort's gate. Watch for the Pumpkin Head and soldiers outside, then move through the courtyard without standing beside the explosive barrels.
- Climb the courtyard stairs, turn left and take the next stairs onto the upper wall. Defeat the Godrick Knight using the blood-coated sword to receive Bloody Slash.
- The corner tower ladder leads to Dectus Medallion (Left), a separate chest reward. Kenneth's later fort conversation is not required for the Ash.
Notes
- Costs 6 FP and 5% of maximum HP plus 50 HP each time you perform it. At 2,000 maximum HP, that is 150 HP. The self-damage can kill you, and reducing FP costs does not reduce this HP cost.
- The blood arc deals physical Standard damage, rather than Fire or Magic damage. Its damage improves with weapon reinforcement and Arcane, independently of the weapon's ordinary Strength or Dexterity attack scaling.
- The arc has 60 base Blood Loss buildup, which also improves with Arcane. It does not inherit the weapon's other status buildup or the added buildup from a weapon coating.
- The blood arc is the damaging part during a properly funded use. The normal weapon hitbox is not a second full hit, so pressing your body into the enemy does not double its damage.
- Greatswords, curved greatswords and great katanas use a slower version with a stronger base arc. Smaller compatible swords use the quicker version; the biggest weapon is not automatically the safest delivery.
- Blood affinity is optional. Poison and Blood affinities slightly weaken the arc's Arcane scaling compared with the other supported choices, even though Blood may be useful for the weapon's ordinary hits.
- The HP sacrifice is direct self-damage, not the self-inflicted Blood Loss proc produced by Seppuku. It does not by itself activate White Mask or Lord of Blood's Exultation.
- Shard of Alexander and qualifying Ansbach clothing can increase the arc's damage. Godfrey Icon does not apply, since holding the input does not charge the attack.
- Defeat Fort Haight's blood-sword knight for this Ash. Kenneth's quest and the Dectus Medallion chest are separate rewards; do not kill Kenneth expecting the knight's Ash.
- The knight gives the Ash once and cannot be farmed for extra copies. Once you own it, Hewg can duplicate it using Lost Ashes of War.
- Compatible weapon classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Greatsword, Curved Sword, Curved Greatsword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Throwing Blade, Light Greatsword, Great Katana. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
- Its default affinity is Blood. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Poison, Blood and Occult; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
