One of the sorceries of the Carian royal family.

Conjures a magic greatsword and then delivers a sweeping blow.

This sorcery can be cast repeatedly.

Armed with this spell, sorcerers gain the strength of knights, their loyalty sworn to the moon.

Before you go

  • Have 10,000 runes.
  1. Reach Church of Vows on eastern Liurnia's plateau. From the Artist's Shack, follow the road north and take the uphill branch to the ruined church.
  2. Speak to Miriel, the large turtle inside, open his shop and buy Carian Greatsword for 10,000 runes. It is already in his stock; no scroll, Ranni quest or Academy boss is required.
  3. If Miriel has died, hand his Bell Bearing to the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold to purchase his unbought stock. There is no need to kill him to learn the spell.

Notes

  • Requires 24 Intelligence, one memory slot and a staff, and costs 12 FP per sweep. Conjures a broad sword that deals Magic damage, rather than using the attack power or requirements of a real greatsword.
  • Its wide sweep can hit several nearby enemies. Repeated casts swing back across the opposite side, with the later sequence including a flatter horizontal sweep.
  • It reaches farther and covers a wider area than Carian Slicer, but has a slower opening and costs three times as much FP. Leave enough room to finish the first cast rather than treating it as the same quick attack.
  • Damage comes from the casting staff's Sorcery Scaling. Strength, Dexterity and a melee weapon in your other hand do not set the magical sword's damage.
  • Carian Glintstone Staff boosts this sword sorcery by 15%. Carian Glintblade Staff boosts the separate glintblade group and does not give this spell that bonus.
  • It cannot be charged. Godfrey Icon and Axe Talisman do not strengthen it as a charged attack, and Shard of Alexander applies to weapon skills instead.
  • It has no Frostbite buildup or travelling frost blade. Adula's Moonblade is a different spell, while the Carian Greatsword Ash of War is a different action with its own cost and damage rules.
  • Miriel sells it for 10,000 runes without a scroll. Buying the sorcery does not give you the matching Ash of War.
