Dragon Communion Grease

Grease

For 60 seconds, increases damage from the coated weapon against the matching verified dragon weakness. Ancient-dragon and lesser-dragon bonuses use the target's actual weakness flags. This does not buff a different weapon, spells cast with a catalyst or an incompatible affinity. Left-hand application requires two-handing that weapon.

In-game description

Solidified knotgrease made from a sharp gravel-stone mixture.

Craftable item.

Coats armament, granting a potent anti-dragon effect.

The effect lasts only for a short time.

A tool of the old Dragon Communion warriors, who were the agents of the ancient dragons' hatred for their lowborn descendants.

Where to find

Crafting after obtaining Igon's Cookbook [1]

Foot of the Jagged Peak

Starting Site of Grace: Grand Altar of Dragon Communion

Before you go

  • Crafting Kit
  • Igon's Cookbook [1]
  • Ingredients per batch: 1 Knot Resin and 1 Sharp Gravel Stone
  1. From Castle Front, follow the road southeast toward Pillar Path Waypoint. At the fork, use the lower road toward Igon rather than climbing to the Suppressing Pillar.
  2. Continue south-southwest past the broken dragon statues. An Ancient Dragon-Man invades along this approach. The cave entrance is on the left near the end of the path, marked by a fire.
  3. Activate Dragon's Pit grace and follow the lit passage down. Watch for skeletons below the first ledge and around the next corner. Strike their glowing remains after knocking them down to stop them getting back up.
  4. In the large cavern with the pillars, follow the left-hand ledge down and take the passage beside the distant crossbow skeleton. Continue onto the sloping stairs in the next chamber.
  5. Take the downward route toward the large altar and pit. The stairs going up lead to an optional Magma Wyrm; that fight is not needed to reach the exit.
  6. At the bottom, approach the message beside the deep chasm. Walk straight off this lowest ledge into the pit to land safely by the boss mist. Do not jump from the higher rooms or aim toward the side walls.
  7. Defeat the Ancient Dragon-Man behind the mist. Open the large doors at the back of the arena instead of using the return-to-entrance exit, then follow the tunnel to Dragon's Pit Terminus grace.
  8. Leave Dragon's Pit Terminus and descend to the lake bed with a Jagged Peak Drake. You can ride past the drake; follow the southern canyon toward the enormous dead dragon.
  9. Pass the dragon statues and emerge beside the ruined structure north of Grand Altar of Dragon Communion. The huge stone bowl and dead dragon identify the altar.
  10. Enter the small ruined structure immediately north of the altar and loot the corpse for the cookbook.
  11. The book is a ground pickup. You do not need to spend Dragon Hearts, defeat Bayle or advance Igon's quest.
  12. Buy the Crafting Kit from Kalé at Church of Elleh for 300 runes if Item Crafting is unavailable.
  13. Collect 1 Knot Resin and 1 Sharp Gravel Stone, then open Item Crafting outside combat and select Dragon Communion Grease. One batch makes 1.

Notes

  • For 60 seconds, the coated weapon deals 38% more damage to ordinary dragons and 28% more to ancient dragons. These are target-specific damage bonuses, not added Fire or Lightning attack power.
  • Flying Dragon Agheel, Magma Wyrm Makar and Bayle receive the ordinary-dragon bonus. Ancient Dragon Lansseax and Lichdragon Fortissax receive the smaller ancient-dragon bonus.
  • The coating does not give the same damage increase against ordinary soldiers, other creatures or players. A dragon-themed location does not make every enemy inside a dragon.
  • Use a weapon that allows grease. Standard, Heavy, Keen and Quality are the usual compatible affinities; elemental and status affinities normally prevent ordinary coatings, and unique weapons have their own restrictions.
  • Uses the weapon-buff slot. It replaces another grease or weapon enchantment rather than stacking a second coating on top.
  • Applying it spends one prepared item and costs no FP. Carry up to ten, with another 600 in storage. Apply after changing equipment so you do not remove the coating before attacking.
  • Each craft uses one Knot Resin and one Sharp Gravel Stone. It is not made from ordinary Root Resin and Gravel Stone.
  • Its 38% and 28% bonuses are stronger than Dragonwound Grease's 30% and 20%. The mixtures cannot be stacked together, and neither requires completing Igon's quest or defeating Bayle to craft once the book is owned.
