About this item

Solidified knotgrease made from a mixture of incendiary materials. Craftable item.

A short string is attached to this lump.

Quickly coats armament, adding heavy fire damage to attacks, but with a brief effect, owing to its small size.

Fire was a symbol of the crusade, and even Messmer's rank-and-file soldiers would wield it.

1. From Moorth Ruins grace, cross the road to the west.
2. Enter the small army camp and check inside the tents, keeping an eye on the soldiers.
3. Loot the corpse in the tent for the book. You do not need to descend into the ruins.
4. Buy the Crafting Kit from Kalé at Church of Elleh for 300 runes if Item Crafting is still unavailable. Finding a cookbook alone does not open the crafting menu.
5. Collect 1 Knot Resin, 1 Black Pyrefly and 1 String, then open Item Crafting outside combat and select Drawstring Messmerfire Grease. One batch makes 1.

Notes

• Quickly adds 135 Fire attack power for 25 seconds. The ordinary Messmerfire coating adds 120 for 60 seconds. Use the drawstring version near the opening where you intend to attack.
• The added Fire amount does not scale with Faith or Strength. It also does not add the percentage-based health drain of black flame.
• Fire damage can remove an active Frostbite debuff, allowing frost to build toward another trigger. Doing that also removes Frostbite's temporary damage vulnerability, so it changes how a frost setup works.
• Use a weapon that allows grease. Standard, Heavy, Keen and Quality usually permit it; elemental and status affinities usually prevent it. Some unique weapons have their own rules.
• This uses the weapon-buff slot. Another grease, weapon enchantment or coating skill replaces it instead of adding a second coating. Switching away from the weapon can remove it.
• Apply it to the weapon you intend to fight with. It does not coat every equipped armament or add its effect to unrelated spells.
• Each application consumes one grease and costs no FP. Carry up to 30, with another 600 in storage.
• Each craft makes one and uses 1 Knot Resin, 1 Black Pyrefly and 1 String. The cookbook stays in your inventory.
