About this Ash of War

The opening skewering thrust costs 18 FP. Press heavy attack afterward for a separate burst of Fire costing another 8 FP, for 26 FP if you use both parts.

The thrust uses the weapon's attack power, with physical Pierce damage and any elemental parts on the weapon. The follow-up flame scales with Faith and weapon upgrade level instead of simply copying the weapon's listed attack power.

Flame Art strengthens the follow-up's Faith scaling. Using a physical or Fire affinity does not turn that flame into a Strength-scaled projectile.

In-game description

This Ash of War grants an armament the Flame Art affinity and the following skill:

"Flame Skewer: Skill of Queelign of the Fire Knights. Enwreathe armament in flame and assume a low stance before skewering the enemy in a single motion. Strong attack unleashes a follow-up flame attack."

Usable on medium and large armaments capable of thrusting.

Where to find

Second Fire Knight Queelign invasion

Scadu Altus

Starting Site of Grace: Small Private Altar

Before you go

  • Defeat Queelign at both invasion sites.
  1. At Small Private Altar in Belurat, leave the grace room and climb the stairs past the patrolling Horned Warrior. Turn right into the street leading northeast to the courtyard with a large tree and grave markers.
  2. Enter the courtyard and defeat Fire Knight Queelign's invasion. At Church of the Crusade, on the rise northwest of Highroad Cross, enter the church and defeat his other invasion.
  3. The second invasion you defeat gives Prayer Room Key and Flame Skewer, whichever location you visit first. The first defeat awards Crusade Insignia instead.
  4. Collect Flame Skewer and Prayer Room Key after the second victory. The two invasion sites can be completed in either order; neither the later Prayer Room Iris choice nor defeating Messmer is required.

Notes

  • The opening skewering thrust costs 18 FP. Press heavy attack afterward for a separate burst of Fire costing another 8 FP, for 26 FP if you use both parts.
  • The thrust uses the weapon's attack power, with physical Pierce damage and any elemental parts on the weapon. The follow-up flame scales with Faith and weapon upgrade level instead of simply copying the weapon's listed attack power.
  • Flame Art strengthens the follow-up's Faith scaling. Using a physical or Fire affinity does not turn that flame into a Strength-scaled projectile.
  • The opening action adds 95 Fire attack power to the weapon for 15 seconds. This flat coating does not grow with Faith, and the optional flame follow-up is not required to receive it.
  • This is its own skill coating, usable with Fire or Flame Art. Those affinities still do not allow ordinary grease or weapon enchantments, and another weapon coating replaces this one.
  • The follow-up deals 15 stance damage in addition to whatever the weapon thrust inflicts. Commit to it when the enemy has left an opening, rather than assuming the first thrust guarantees the entire sequence.
  • It cannot be charged. Godfrey Icon therefore provides no charged-skill benefit, while Shard of Alexander, Winged Serpent Helm and Messmer's Helm can strengthen qualifying attacks.
  • Only the weapon thrust can be parried. The separate flame does not inherit the weapon's bleed or other status buildup.
  • Both Queelign invasions are required. The first victory gives Crusade Insignia, and the second gives this Ash with Prayer Room Key. You keep the Ash regardless of the later Iris reward you choose for him.
  • Compatible weapon classes: Straight Sword, Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Katana, Twinblade, Thrusting Sword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Thrusting Shield, Light Greatsword, Great Katana. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
  • Its default affinity is Flame Art. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Fire and Flame Art; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
