Starting Site of Grace: Bestial Sanctum

In eastern Limgrave, find the Third Church of Marika. Search the bushes behind the church for the waygate and use it to reach Bestial Sanctum in Dragonbarrow.
On arrival, enter the huge doors behind you and activate Bestial Sanctum grace. You do not need to give Gurranq Deathroot or attack him to reach the weapon boss.
Leave through the front doors and approach the black gargoyle on the steps. This Black Blade Kindred is much stronger than the enemies near the Limgrave church, so return later if your damage and healing are still low.
Defeat Black Blade Kindred to receive Gargoyle's Blackblade and Gargoyle's Black Halberd together. Neither weapon is a random drop, and the kindred before Grand Lift of Rold has different rewards.

Physical damage scales most strongly with Strength, with weaker Dexterity scaling.
Holy damage scales most strongly with Faith.
Upgrade it with Somber Smithing Stones. Its maximum upgrade is +10.
Its Spinning Slash skill is fixed and cannot be replaced with an Ash of War.
Grease and weapon enchantments cannot be applied. Its affinity is fixed as well as its skill.
Requires 26 Strength, 10 Dexterity and 22 Faith and weighs 12. Two-handing meets the Strength requirement at 18, while Faith remains necessary.
Spinning Slash costs 6 FP to begin and 12 FP for the follow-up. The broad spins are useful against nearby groups, but committing to the second part leaves less time to retreat.
The skill uses the halberd's Physical and Holy attack power. It does not launch the black-and-red attacks used by the boss, and ordinary hits do not drain a percentage of an enemy's health.
Its fixed Holy damage can be useful against a suitable target, but Holy resistance reduces that portion. Raising Strength cannot turn its Holy damage into Physical damage.
This is a guaranteed reward from the Dragonbarrow kindred. The Forbidden Lands kindred drops the axe and twinblade instead.
