About this Ash of War
Costs 15 FP. Spin the weapon and thrust to release an ice projectile. The projectile deals magic damage and 160 Frostbite buildup; it does not deal a separate ice damage type.
Projectile damage improves with weapon reinforcement, Dexterity and Intelligence. Keen emphasizes Dexterity, Magic emphasizes Intelligence, and Cold supports both. The strongest option depends on the actual stat spread rather than the Cold default automatically being best.
The projectile's damage is calculated separately from ordinary weapon attack power. A bigger spear or a higher combined attack rating does not by itself guarantee a stronger ice projectile.

Where to find
Night's Cavalry east of Gate Town Bridge
Liurnia of the Lakes
Starting Site of Grace: Gate Town Bridge
Before you go
- Fight the rider at night.
- From Liurnia Highway North, continue north through the battlefield with marionettes toward Gate Town Bridge.
- Activate the grace, pass time until night and search the road east and southeast of it for the Night's Cavalry.
- Defeat that rider to receive Ice Spear. This is the southern lake-road encounter, not the Bellum Highway rider farther north.
Notes
- Costs 15 FP. Spin the weapon and thrust to release an ice projectile. The projectile deals magic damage and 160 Frostbite buildup; it does not deal a separate ice damage type.
- Projectile damage improves with weapon reinforcement, Dexterity and Intelligence. Keen emphasizes Dexterity, Magic emphasizes Intelligence, and Cold supports both. The strongest option depends on the actual stat spread rather than the Cold default automatically being best.
- The projectile's damage is calculated separately from ordinary weapon attack power. A bigger spear or a higher combined attack rating does not by itself guarantee a stronger ice projectile.
- The projectile deals 25 stance damage before target-specific modifiers. The close weapon spin supplies another contact, so getting both to land adds pressure; the listed projectile damage should not be mistaken for the full close-range sequence.
- The actual weapon contact can apply the weapon's own status buildup. The ice projectile has its own fixed Frostbite buildup and does not carry bleed, poison or a coating from the weapon.
- Intelligence improves the magic damage, while neither Intelligence nor Arcane raises the projectile's fixed Frostbite buildup. Increasing magic damage also does not increase the separate Frostbite burst.
- Shard of Alexander and magic-damage bonuses strengthen the projectile. Spellblade armor boosts its magic skill damage. Snow Witch Hat boosts certain cold sorceries rather than this weapon skill, and Godfrey Icon gives no bonus because Ice Spear cannot be charged.
- Its range is useful but limited. Use a safe opening for the stationary windup, and avoid firing from so far away that the projectile disappears before reaching the enemy.
- The Night's Cavalry near Gate Town Bridge must be defeated at night. Killing only its horse is insufficient if the rider survives. The Bellum Highway rider farther north gives different rewards.
- Compatible weapon classes: Twinblade, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
- Its default affinity is Cold. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Magic and Cold; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
