In-game description
One of the sorceries developed from the magma of Mt. Gelmir.
Fires a lump of magma that explodes on contact.
Charging enhances potency.
After discovering the ancient hexes of Gelmir, Rykard, son of Queen Rennala, brought them back into practical use as new forms of sorcery.
Where to find
Tanith after Old Knight Istvan's contract
Mt. Gelmir
Starting Site of Grace: Volcano Manor
- At Scenic Isle in southern Liurnia, head east toward the stone gazebo near the telescope. Speak to Rya about her stolen necklace before entering Volcano Manor, which ends this early meeting.
- Ride northwest across the shallow lake to Boilprawn Shack. Talk to Boggart beside the cooking pot, ask for the necklace and choose Deal to open the purchase.
- Buy Rya's Necklace for 1,000 runes. Buying it keeps Boggart alive and opens his prawn shop; purchase at least one Boiled Prawn if you want his later move and crab stock.
- Return to Rya in the gazebo and give her the necklace. Finish her dialogue to receive Volcano Manor Invitation.
- Reach Altus Plateau through the Grand Lift of Dectus with the medallion halves from Fort Haight and Fort Faroth, or by defeating Magma Wyrm Makar at Ruin-Strewn Precipice. Rya waits at the top of Dectus for lift arrivals, or by Lux Ruins near Erdtree-Gazing Hill for the precipice route. Speak to her and accept her hand to travel to Volcano Manor.
- At Volcano Manor in Mt. Gelmir, speak to Tanith beside the armored knight and agree to join. Take the Drawing-Room Key and open the drawing room down the corridor. Collect the Letter from Volcano Manor from its table.
- Read the letter to mark Old Knight Istvan on the map. In Limgrave, start at Warmaster's Shack east of Stormhill Shack and head north toward the colosseum. Find the red invasion sign below the approach to its entrance.
- Use the red sign and defeat Old Knight Istvan in his world. This is the contract target, rather than a roaming knight. Winning gives all four regular Scaled armor pieces directly.
- Return to Tanith and report the completed request for Magma Shot. Her spell reward is separate from the armor, and reporting the kill makes the next letter available.
Notes
- Requires 19 Intelligence, 10 Faith, one memory slot and a glintstone staff. Both the normal and charged casts cost 16 FP. Charging raises stamina use from 21 to 27.
- Fires a short arcing projectile that bursts into Fire and leaves magma on the ground. Charging improves the impact and lingering damage. Aim where a target is standing or moving slowly, because an enemy that leaves the pool avoids its later damage.
- The projectile falls more quickly than a long-range glintstone shot. Lock-on does not guarantee it will reach a distant target, so move closer or aim the arc manually when it keeps landing short.
- Damage uses the casting staff's Sorcery Scaling. The Faith requirement does not make an Intelligence-only staff gain Faith scaling. Gelmir Glintstone Staff uses both Intelligence and Faith, while other staffs follow their own attributes.
- An active Gelmir Glintstone Staff gives magma sorceries 15% more damage, including when another staff casts. Talisman of the Dread adds 15% in PvE or 10% in PvP to eligible magma attacks. Godfrey Icon improves the charged cast.
- This is Fire damage rather than Magic damage. Magic Scorpion Charm and Magic-Shrouding Cracked Tear do not improve it just because it is a sorcery. Fire and sorcery bonuses are the relevant choices.
- Fire hits can end an active Frostbite debuff so frost can be built up again. That also removes Frostbite's temporary increase to damage taken; it does not stack several copies of the debuff.
- Tanith gives the spell for reporting the first main contract, Old Knight Istvan. This is separate from Istvan's Scaled armor reward. Complete the report before ending the manor quest to preserve the ordinary reward sequence.
