In-game description
Maliketh's black blade which once harbored the power of the Rune of Death. A sad shadow of its former glory.
After a fragment of Death was stolen on that fateful night, Maliketh bound the blade within his own flesh, such that none might ever rob Death again.
Skill
Set free the remnants of Destined Death, plunging the greatsword into the ground to summon a myriad of blades. In addition to dealing immediate damage, this attack reduces the enemy's maximum HP and continues to wear down HP for a short time.
Where to find
Crumbling Farum Azula
Starting Site of Grace: Beside the Great Bridge
Before you go
- Defeat Maliketh, the Black Blade.
- Defeat Fire Giant and continue the story at the Forge of the Giants to reach Crumbling Farum Azula. The small section reached through the Four Belfries does not connect to this boss route.
- Progress through Farum Azula and defeat Godskin Duo. Continue through the northern ruins and Dragon Temple Rooftop route until you reach the lift to Beside the Great Bridge grace.
- From that grace, climb the stairs and turn uphill on the great bridge. The downhill side leads toward different loot. A Draconic Tree Sentinel guards the uphill approach; defeat it or get past it to the fog door.
- Enter the arena and defeat Beast Clergyman and his second phase, Maliketh, the Black Blade. This victory changes Leyndell into the Ashen Capital, so collect any missable Royal Capital items before finishing the fight.
- After the scene, activate Leyndell, Capital of Ash grace. You can return to Roundtable Hold now without defeating Gideon or the remaining main bosses.
- Speak to Enia at Roundtable Hold and exchange Remembrance of the Black Blade for Maliketh's Black Blade. Black Blade, the incantation, is the other reward.
Notes
- Requires 34 Strength, 12 Dexterity and 20 Faith, and weighs 22. Strength provides the strongest Physical scaling, Dexterity is weaker, and Faith improves Holy damage. Two-handing meets its Strength requirement at 23 Strength.
- Destined Death costs 40 FP. It begins with a sweep and ground stab, then releases three surrounding energy-blade hits.
- The direct attacks use the weapon's Physical and Holy attack power. The red effects are not an independent purely Faith-scaled projectile, so Strength remains useful for its direct skill damage.
- The energy blades temporarily reduce the target's maximum HP by 10% for 45 seconds. The attack also leaves a brief percentage-based health drain, separate from its direct hit damage.
- Repeated hits refresh the same maximum-HP reduction rather than removing another 10% with every blade. Some bosses in the Realm of Shadow also resist the ongoing health drain more strongly than ordinary targets.
- Shard of Alexander improves the skill's direct damage. Physical and Holy bonuses help their respective direct portions; they do not multiply the percentage of maximum HP removed.
- Godfrey Icon does not improve the skill because it cannot be charged. Its long close-range sequence can be punished even when the character resists interruption.
- The stab is short-ranged and can miss if the target is too far away. Stay close enough for the weapon contacts instead of relying only on the outer energy blades.
- Uses Somber Smithing Stones to +10. Its skill and affinity are fixed, and grease or weapon enchantments cannot be applied.
- Defeating Maliketh changes Leyndell into the Ashen Capital. Collect missable Royal Capital items before finishing the boss fight, then visit Enia for the weapon without needing to defeat Gideon first.
- The maximum-HP reduction and ongoing drain are separate from stance damage. A target can survive the direct hits but continue losing health afterward.
- The percentage effect does not grant a permanent reduction after its timer ends. Reapplying this same skill refreshes its own effect rather than endlessly reducing maximum HP.
