1. From Moorth Ruins grace, cross the road to the west.
2. Enter the small army camp and check inside the tents, keeping an eye on the soldiers.
3. Loot the corpse in the tent for the book. You do not need to descend into the ruins.
4. Buy the Crafting Kit from Kalé at Church of Elleh for 300 runes if Item Crafting is unavailable. With the book and kit owned, open Item Crafting outside combat.
5. Collect 1 Knot Resin and 1 Black Pyrefly, then open Item Crafting outside combat and select Messmerfire Grease. One batch makes 1.

Notes

• Adds 120 Fire attack power to a compatible weapon for 60 seconds. This is an attack-power addition, so enemy defenses and the attack used determine the extra HP damage.
• Adds 35 more Fire attack power than ordinary Fire Grease for the same 60-second duration. Its recipe uses Knot Resin and Black Pyrefly instead of the ordinary mixture's materials.
• The Fire addition does not scale with Faith or Strength. The name does not add the HP-draining effect of Black Flame or give you a new Messmer skill.
• Fire damage can clear an active Frostbite effect. This lets you build toward another trigger, but gives up the existing Frostbite damage-taken penalty.
• Use a weapon that allows coatings. Standard, Heavy, Keen and Quality are the usual compatible affinities; elemental and status affinities normally prevent grease, with separate restrictions for unique weapons.
• Uses the weapon-buff slot. Another grease or a weapon enchantment replaces the coating, rather than stacking a second coating on top.
• Applying it spends one prepared item and costs no FP. Carry up to ten, with another 600 in storage; switching away from the coated weapon can remove the effect.
• Each batch uses 1 Knot Resin and 1 Black Pyrefly. Applying the grease spends one prepared item; it does not consume the cookbook.
