In-game description

Sorcery of a preceptor who served the Carian royal family.

Used to conceal oneself in a glintstone haze, reappearing after a few seconds have passed. Directional inputs determine where one will reappear.

The curator of the study hall was such a master of this sorcery that it now bears her name.

Where to find

Cathedral of Manus Metyr

Scadu Altus

Starting Site of Grace: Cathedral of Manus Metyr

Before you go

  • To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
  1. To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
  2. From Highroad Cross in Scadu Altus, follow the road east to Moorth Ruins and activate the grace beside the cross.
  3. Pass through the large stone arch east-southeast of the grace. At the house ahead, turn left toward the leaning tower. Avoid the large open shaft behind the house, which is too deep for a direct drop.
  4. Find the smaller gap between the broken building and the rock wall in front of the leaning tower. Drop onto the balcony-like ledge, turn right past the dogs and follow the cave inward.
  5. In the open chamber at the end, take the back-left ledges down onto the lower roof. Look for the small shrine guarded by three Inquisitors and collect Golden Arcs from the chest inside.
  6. To continue east, drop from the lower roof to the ground and take the cave beside the building on the left. Follow it to the long ladder and climb out of the well at Bonny Village grace.
  7. Go east through Bonny Village, watching for the large cleaver-wielding villagers, and cross the two suspension bridges. The second brings you to Bridge Leading to the Village grace.
  8. Follow the road north through the woods and around its bend to Church District Highroad grace. The northern road continues toward Shadow Keep; your destination is the cathedral south of this junction.
  9. Follow the road south through the woods to the large cathedral in the lake. Enter through its main doors and activate Cathedral of Manus Metyr grace.
  10. Speak to Count Ymir on the throne and accept his guidance. He gives you the Hole-Laden Necklace and first Ruins Map. You do not need to buy a spell to receive them.
  11. Open Ymir's sorcery shop and buy Miriam's Vanishing for 10,000 runes. It is in his initial stock.

Notes

  • Requires 26 Intelligence, one memory slot and a staff. Each cast costs 9 FP and briefly makes you disappear before reappearing.
  • Hold a direction to reappear a short distance that way. Without a directional input, you return to the same position; the spell is not an automatic retreat from the target.
  • The invulnerability begins after the casting startup. Cast ahead of an incoming attack rather than treating the first movement of the staff as an immediate dodge.
  • Against other players, disappearing breaks their lock-on and the invulnerability window is shorter than against ordinary enemies. You can be targeted again after reappearing.
  • You can begin another spell as you reappear, making this useful for changing position before a cast. Repeated vanishing has a delay, so it does not provide uninterrupted safety.
  • It deals no damage and gives no lasting damage bonus. Finger-sorcery damage equipment does not turn the teleport into an attack.
  • The movement does not protect you from a bad landing. Take care beside cliffs and stairs, where appearing above lower ground can leave you falling.
  • Ymir sells it for 10,000 runes at your first meeting. Sounding a finger-ruin bell is unnecessary; his bell bearing later transfers the purchase to the Twin Maiden Husks.
