In-game description

One of the night sorceries of Sellia, Town of Sorcery.

Swiftly fires a semi-invisible projectile.

This sorcery can be used without delay after performing another action.

The Sellian sorcerers were assassins, and it is said that they often hunted their fellows.

Where to find

Gowry's Shack

Caelid

Starting Site of Grace: Sellia Under-Stair

Before you go

  • Have 4,000 runes.
  • Complete the early Unalloyed Gold Needle handovers to Gowry and Millicent, then return to Gowry; finish Millicent's shack dialogue and reload if she is visiting.
  1. From Southern Aeonia Swamp Bank, follow the road north through Sellia Gateway. Watch for the giant throwing rocks above the gateway. Gowry's wooden shack is off the road on the right, before the town.
  2. Speak to Gowry and agree to help Millicent. Keep the large dog away from the shack so its attacks do not interrupt the conversation.
  3. Go west into the Swamp of Aeonia toward the clearing enclosed by large pale branches. Activate Inner Aeonia nearby and defeat Commander O'Neil in the Heart of Aeonia for the broken Unalloyed Gold Needle.
  4. Return the needle to Gowry and finish his dialogue. He gives Sellia's Secret and needs time to repair the needle. Rest or reload, then speak to him again for the repaired version.
  5. From Southern Aeonia Swamp Bank, follow the road north through Sellia Gateway. Watch for the giant throwing rocks above the gateway. Gowry's wooden shack is off the road on the right, before the town.
  6. Continue north into Sellia, Town of Sorcery. Activate Sellia Under-Stair on the southwestern edge and follow the main street north, watching for sorcerers appearing beside the buildings.
  7. Climb the stairs at the far end toward the golden sapling and the sealed upper gate. The large roots beside these steps provide the way onto the roofs.
  8. Near the sapling, look southwest through the broken railing for a root leading toward the nearest candle tower. Follow it, climb the tower ladder and interact with the flame at the top.
  9. Return to the upper steps and use the root again, this time stepping onto the adjoining roofs. Work south and east across the roofs and branches toward the eastern tower. Use Torrent's double jump for the gaps and climb the ladder to light its flame.
  10. From that eastern roof route, head back across the connecting roots and roofs toward the southern tower on the western side. The narrow approach has a corpse with a Stonesword Key. Climb the ladder and light the third flame.
  11. All three flames remove the town's different blue barriers. Return to ground level to collect the particular reward you came for; lighting the towers does not automatically put the chest items in your inventory.
  12. Take the now-open upper gate beside the golden sapling to Sellia Backstreets grace. Follow the uphill road beyond town, watching for the rolling boulders and the enemies on the bends.
  13. At the top, go to Church of the Plague on the eastern cliff. Watch for the two Kindred of Rot outside, enter through the broken wall and activate the grace.
  14. Give Millicent the repaired needle. Rest and speak to her again. Return to Gowry's Shack to open his sorcery shop; if Millicent is visiting the shack instead, finish her dialogue and reload so Gowry returns.
  15. Open Gowry's shop and buy Night Shard for 4,000 runes. Finish the early needle handovers; you do not need to complete Millicent's entire later journey.

Notes

  • Requires 18 Intelligence, one memory slot and a staff, and costs 7 FP. Quickly fires one semi-invisible projectile that deals Magic damage.
  • Its short action can follow another action without a long opening windup. It suits brief openings and finishing a target, while Night Comet offers a stronger charged option at a higher cost.
  • It cannot be charged. Holding the button does not produce a stronger shard, and Godfrey Icon does not give it a charged-spell bonus.
  • Many enemies do not reactively dodge the night projectile. Their movement, cover and attacks already underway can still make it miss.
  • Staff of Loss boosts its damage by 30% while active in either hand, including when another staff casts it. Two active copies give a 69% school bonus.
  • Damage uses the casting tool's Sorcery Scaling. The night effect is not a status ailment and does not become stronger simply by raising Arcane on a staff that lacks Arcane scaling.
  • Gowry sells it for 4,000 runes once his early Millicent shop is open. Giving her Valkyrie's Prosthesis is needed for his later Pest Threads stock, not this early sorcery.
