Starting Site of Grace: The Four Belfries

Before you go

Defeat the Grafted Scion during the opening visit to receive the sword and Golden Beast Crest Shield immediately. If you lost that fight, use the return route below.
Follow the road along western Liurnia to Foot of the Four Belfries grace. At the fork, take the uphill path northeast through the spirit jellyfish and Troll Knights.
Keep climbing east and then uphill toward the four bell towers. Activate The Four Belfries grace at the highest part of the hill and open the nearby chest for an Imbued Sword Key.
Walk downhill to the eastern sending gate with the inscription Precipice of Anticipation. Read the inscription before using the key: the other gates lead to different isolated areas.
Spend one Imbued Sword Key at its imp statue and use the gate. An ordinary Stonesword Key will not work here.
Follow the island path and bridge to the original Grafted Scion courtyard. Defeat it if it survived your first visit; it drops Ornamental Straight Sword and Golden Beast Crest Shield together.

Needs 10 Strength and 14 Dexterity and weighs 3.0. Its physical damage scales much more strongly with Dexterity than Strength.
Two-handing draws the matching sword, giving paired attacks from one copy. You do not need a second purchase or a second set of upgrades.
Golden Tempering costs 24 FP and adds a flat 100 Holy attack power for 60 seconds. The added Holy amount does not increase with Faith or weapon upgrade level.
While tempered, its heavy, charged heavy and running heavy attacks become paired thrusts. These special attacks use both swords even when another item is held in your left hand.
A shield with No Skill lets you activate Golden Tempering without first putting the shield away. You can then use the buffed thrust attacks while keeping that shield equipped.
Its 110 critical rating benefits backstabs and ripostes. That is separate from the damage of its ordinary paired combo, which does not gain a flat 10% critical bonus.
Upgrade it with Somber Smithing Stones to +10. Golden Tempering is fixed, so compatible Ashes of War cannot replace it and its affinity cannot be changed.
Grease and outside weapon enchantments cannot be applied. Golden Tempering is its own weapon coating, and refreshing the skill does not stack a second 100-Holy bonus.
The starting Grafted Scion is the fixed reward encounter. Other Grafted Scions do not provide another guaranteed copy.
