About this Ash of War

Costs 8 FP to call the phantom and follow it with an advancing slash. Another skill input adds the phantom's overhead attack and your own follow-up for 8 FP, making the full sequence 16 FP.

Your weapon contacts use the weapon's attack power, affinity and status. The phantom is a separate Physical attack improved through Strength, Dexterity and weapon upgrades.

The phantom does not copy the weapon's bleed, poison or temporary coating. It also does not become Magic damage simply because it looks ghostly.

In-game description

This Ash of War grants an armament the Quality affinity and the following skill:

"Phantom Slash: Skill inspired by the fond remembrances of the Night's Cavalry. Creates an apparition of the knights' former instructor who guides a joint lunging upward swing. Additional input allows for a follow-up attack."

Usable on polearms and twinblades (great spears excepted).

Where to find

Night's Cavalry on the path to the Grand Lift of Rold

Forbidden Lands

Starting Site of Grace: Forbidden Lands

Before you go

  • Defeat Morgott and fight the rider at night.
  1. Defeat Morgott and leave Leyndell through its eastern exit. Follow the large bridge and take the lift down to Forbidden Lands.
  2. Activate the grace and pass time until night. Follow the road east through the mist, watching for Vulgar Militia ambushes.
  3. Defeat the Night's Cavalry patrolling this route to receive Phantom Slash. The Black Blade Kindred at the lift is a separate boss.
  4. Return at night again if the rider is absent after you die or rest.

Notes

  • Costs 8 FP to call the phantom and follow it with an advancing slash. Another skill input adds the phantom's overhead attack and your own follow-up for 8 FP, making the full sequence 16 FP.
  • Your weapon contacts use the weapon's attack power, affinity and status. The phantom is a separate Physical attack improved through Strength, Dexterity and weapon upgrades.
  • The phantom does not copy the weapon's bleed, poison or temporary coating. It also does not become Magic damage simply because it looks ghostly.
  • Heavy emphasizes Strength scaling for the phantom, while Keen emphasizes Dexterity. Quality uses both, but is not automatically the strongest option at modest stats. Choose the affinity around the attributes you have invested in.
  • Each phantom attack deals 8 stance damage in addition to your weapon's own stance damage. Staying close enough for both your attack and the phantom is stronger than letting only the apparition connect.
  • The apparition can complete an attack even if your own movement is interrupted. It is a temporary part of the skill, not a Spirit Ash that needs a summoning monument or Spirit Calling Bell.
  • Shard of Alexander improves the skill. Physical damage bonuses improve the phantom, while your own contacts use the bonuses relevant to the equipped weapon's damage types.
  • The phantom's strikes cannot be parried, but your own weapon attacks can. Godfrey Icon does not improve this uncharged sequence.
  • The Night's Cavalry in Forbidden Lands gives it at night. Black Blade Kindred guarding Grand Lift of Rold is a separate encounter and is unnecessary for this reward.
  • Compatible weapon classes: Twinblade, Spear, Halberd, Reaper. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
  • Its default affinity is Quality. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Fire, Flame Art, Lightning, Sacred, Magic, Cold, Poison, Blood and Occult; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
