About this Ash of War

Costs 7 FP and performs an advancing slash with 250 base Deadly Poison buildup. Its direct hit uses the weapon's attack power and physical attack type rather than a separate universal Arcane projectile formula.

Against an already poisoned target, the skill ends that Poison and deals a separate burst of 5% of the target's maximum HP plus 250 HP. At 10,000 maximum HP, the burst is 750 HP before any applicable target-specific rules, separately from the weapon hit.

The burst works with ordinary or deadly Poison already on the target. It does not require a particular Poison weapon or a nearly expired timer, and its base amount does not grow with your weapon's attack rating.

Where to find

Night's Cavalry northeast of the Cathedral of Dragon Communion

Caelid

Starting Site of Grace: Southern Aeonia Swamp Bank

Before you go

  • Fight the southern Caelid rider at night.
  1. From eastern Limgrave, follow the road beyond Summonwater Village into Caelid. Stay on the highway as it curves south around the Swamp of Aeonia toward Caelid Highway South.
  2. Follow Caelid's main highway along the southern edge of the Swamp of Aeonia.
  3. From Caelid Highway South, continue southeast along the road toward the junction below the swamp.
  4. Activate Southern Aeonia Swamp Bank and pass time until night. Return to the main road south of the swamp near the map stele, northeast of Cathedral of Dragon Communion.
  5. Find the flail-wielding Night's Cavalry patrolling that southern road. Defeat the rider, not just its horse, to receive Poison Moth Flight. No dragon altar purchase is involved.
  6. If you die and return during daylight, pass time until night again. The distant rider on the Dragonbarrow bridge gives a different Ash.

Notes

  • Costs 7 FP and performs an advancing slash with 250 base Deadly Poison buildup. Its direct hit uses the weapon's attack power and physical attack type rather than a separate universal Arcane projectile formula.
  • Against an already poisoned target, the skill ends that Poison and deals a separate burst of 5% of the target's maximum HP plus 250 HP. At 10,000 maximum HP, the burst is 750 HP before any applicable target-specific rules, separately from the weapon hit.
  • The burst works with ordinary or deadly Poison already on the target. It does not require a particular Poison weapon or a nearly expired timer, and its base amount does not grow with your weapon's attack rating.
  • Using it earlier trades away the remaining Poison damage for an immediate burst. Letting a strong Poison run for a while before consuming it can give more total damage, provided you can safely land the slash later.
  • The skill can apply its own Deadly Poison to a susceptible target. Its drain is 0.14% of maximum HP plus 14 HP per second for 30 seconds, distinct from ordinary 90-second Poison.
  • It does not consume Scarlet Rot. The Poison Flower Blooms Twice is a different skill with different status conditions.
  • Curing the enemy lets you build Poison again and reactivate nearby-Poison equipment. However, repeated status procs can raise an enemy's resistance, so each new application is not guaranteed to take the same number of hits.
  • The brief poisonous slash is not a lasting weapon coating. It does not keep your next ordinary attack poisoned just because you used the skill once.
  • The reward comes from the southern Caelid Night's Cavalry. The Dragonbarrow bridge rider and the Cathedral of Dragon Communion altar are different encounters.
  • Compatible weapon classes: Dagger, Straight Sword, Curved Sword, Katana, Thrusting Sword, Throwing Blade, Backhand Blade, Light Greatsword. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
  • Its default affinity is Poison. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Poison, Blood and Occult; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
