Caelid

Starting Site of Grace: Abandoned Cave

  1. From Smoldering Wall in Caelid, head east through the dead trees to the ravine. Look across for the cave opening in the opposite cliff, above the bottom of the chasm.
  2. Cross the large dead branch spanning the gap, keeping to its center, then enter Abandoned Cave and activate the grace. The Abductor Virgin outside does not need to be defeated.
  3. Bring a light and Scarlet Rot treatment. Drop into the first rot pool after a bubbling geyser erupts, turn left and move to the dry ground beside the inactive Abductor Virgin.
  4. Take the left passage past the summoning pool. The right branch beside the inactive machine is a separate dead end with Dragonwound Grease.
  5. At the next ledge, move right before dropping into the second rot chamber. A mushroom-covered enemy waits beside the right-hand tunnel.
  6. When the geysers settle, move to the corpse beside the inactive Abductor Virgin in this second pool and loot Serpent Bow. Retreat onto dry ground and deal with any rot buildup.
  7. The tunnel on the right continues to the rest of the cave. Neither Cleanrot Knight needs to be defeated for the bow.

Notes

  • Requires 8 Strength, 15 Dexterity and 11 Arcane, with a weight of 3.5. Physical damage scales more strongly with Dexterity than Strength; Arcane improves eligible status buildup rather than the arrow's direct damage.
  • Adds 15 base Poison buildup to arrows before Arcane scaling. This is ordinary Poison, not the faster-draining Deadly Poison used by Venomous Fang.
  • Its Arcane scaling also improves Blood Loss and Sleep buildup already supplied by compatible arrows. It does not create those effects on ordinary arrows, and does not improve Scarlet Rot or Frost buildup.
  • Serpent Arrows and Poisonbone Arrows combine their own Poison with the bow's added buildup. Bloodbone Arrows and sleep arrows provide different ailments while retaining the bow's added Poison.
  • Mighty Shot spends 6 FP for a stronger shot with better range and status buildup. Hold the skill stance, then fire the selected arrow; the extra preparation leaves you exposed if an enemy is already close.
  • Uses ordinary arrows, not Greatarrows or bolts. Each shot consumes its equipped ammunition even though the bow supplies an additional effect.
  • Upgrade it with Somber Smithing Stones to +10. Mighty Shot is fixed, so it cannot use a replacement Ash of War, a different affinity, grease or a weapon enchantment.
  • One application of Poison runs for its own duration after the meter fills. More shots do not turn an already poisoned target into Deadly Poison, and immune targets cannot be poisoned.
  • Found in the cave's second rot pool. The Cleanrot Knights award Gold Scarab farther inside, and are not required for the bow.
