Before you go

  • To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
  1. From Three-Path Cross, follow the northeastern road across Ellac Greatbridge, avoiding the ballista fire. Activate Castle Front beyond the bridge.
  2. Head east until you reach the rock wall, then turn south. Drop down the short cliff and continue south alongside the tall rock formation.
  3. Past the first wooden stake fence, turn west and drop onto the lower ledge with three Messmer Soldiers overlooking Ellac River.
  4. Clear enough space to loot the corpse in this ruined camp for Spread Crossbow. It is a fixed pickup rather than a soldier drop.

Notes

  • Consumes ten bolts in a broad cone when a full load is available, but one target can be hit at most three times per firing. Do not budget damage or buildup as though all ten bolts can hit the same enemy.
  • It has no attribute damage scaling. The 11 Strength and 17 Dexterity are equipment requirements, so more Dexterity does not tighten the spread or directly increase the crossbow's damage.
  • It uses ordinary crossbow bolts. Status ammunition can apply its own effect on hits, but the weapon does not give every bolt a status effect by itself.
  • Kick is fixed. You cannot change the affinity, use a replacement Ash of War, or apply grease or a weapon enchantment.
  • Upgrade it with Smithing Stones, up to +25.
  • Each hit applies 80% of the loaded bolt's normal ailment buildup. At close range, three connections can apply 240% of one bolt's listed buildup, at the cost of ten bolts.
  • Its shots do not gain the normal headshot damage and strong headshot stagger against other players. Precision aiming does not restore that PvP headshot behavior.
  • Ordinary firing costs no FP. The wide cone spends ammunition quickly and is much less efficient against small or distant targets.
  • The corpse lies below the cliffside soldier camp south of Castle Front. It is not a random reward from those soldiers.
