About this Ash of War

The skill creates wind as you take off, then drives the weapon down and produces another gust on landing.

It works best when both the close-range wind and the plunge can reach the enemy. Starting too far away can waste part of the attack.

You resist interruption during parts of the motion, but you still take damage. Do not confuse the leap with invulnerability.

Where to find

Lower cliffside below Rampart Tower

Stormveil Castle

Starting Site of Grace: Rampart Tower

  1. From Rampart Tower, go outside onto the wall patrolled by Warhawks carrying explosive barrels. Clear the birds before trying the jumps.
  2. At the left-hand balcony along this wall, jump over the low edge onto the ledge below. Follow the wall to the ruined tower with the Marred Wooden Shield.
  3. Continue down the stepped ledges. The lower projecting rock platform breaks when you land on it and drops you onto vegetation below.
  4. Once you land, turn southeast and kill the scarab for Storm Assault before it disappears.
  5. A Crucible Knight patrols farther along this lower route. You do not need to defeat it for the Ash; continue past its area to the tower lift if you want to open the shortcut back up.

Notes

  • The skill creates wind as you take off, then drives the weapon down and produces another gust on landing.
  • It works best when both the close-range wind and the plunge can reach the enemy. Starting too far away can waste part of the attack.
  • You resist interruption during parts of the motion, but you still take damage. Do not confuse the leap with invulnerability.
  • The forward movement is dangerous near ledges. Check the landing area before using it.
  • Compatible weapon classes: Twinblade, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Spear, Great Spear, Halberd, Thrusting Shield. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
  • Its default affinity is Quality. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Fire, Flame Art, Lightning, Sacred, Magic, Cold, Poison, Blood and Occult; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
  • The skill costs 22 FP before equipment that changes FP costs.
  • Costs 22 FP. The plunge uses weapon attack power, while the surrounding Physical wind uses a separate Strength and Dexterity calculation with weapon reinforcement.
  • An affinity can change both calculations in different ways. Heavy favors the independent wind’s Strength contribution, Keen favors Dexterity, and Quality supports both.
  • The blade can apply the weapon’s ordinary status buildup. The independent wind does not automatically inherit Blood Loss, Poison, rot or a weapon coating.
  • Shard of Alexander improves the damaging skill. Godfrey Icon does not apply because it cannot be charged, and Claw Talisman does not apply simply because you leap.
