About this Ash of War
Troll's Roar costs 22 FP. The roar hits around you, then a strong-attack input gives an overhead slam without an extra FP charge. The follow-up still needs stamina, and you can stop after the roar if the enemy has moved away.
The roar's separate physical attack improves with Strength and weapon reinforcement. Its strongest close contact deals 40 stance damage, while the outer part is weaker. A distant hit is not the same stance-breaking opportunity as landing it beside the target.
Roar Medallion increases the roar and follow-up damage by 15%, and an active Highland Axe gives another 10%. These improve HP damage rather than increasing stance damage by the same percentages. Godfrey Icon does not apply because the skill is not chargeable.

In-game description
This Ash of War grants an armament the Heavy affinity and the following skill:
"Troll's Roar: Look into the distance and let out an intense roar, generating a powerful shockwave that blows back surrounding foes. Follow up with a strong attack to slam the armament down."
Usable on large and colossal swords, axes, and hammers.
Where to find
Top of a giant skull southeast of the Church of Repose
Mountaintops of the Giants
Starting Site of Grace: Church of Repose
- Reach the Church of Repose in the southern Mountaintops, near the route to the Fire Giant.
- Ride southeast from the church and find the large skull lying on the snow. Look behind it for a spiritspring.
- Use the spiritspring with Torrent to land on top of the skull. Loot the corpse there for Troll's Roar.
Notes
- Troll's Roar costs 22 FP. The roar hits around you, then a strong-attack input gives an overhead slam without an extra FP charge. The follow-up still needs stamina, and you can stop after the roar if the enemy has moved away.
- The roar's separate physical attack improves with Strength and weapon reinforcement. Its strongest close contact deals 40 stance damage, while the outer part is weaker. A distant hit is not the same stance-breaking opportunity as landing it beside the target.
- Roar Medallion increases the roar and follow-up damage by 15%, and an active Highland Axe gives another 10%. These improve HP damage rather than increasing stance damage by the same percentages. Godfrey Icon does not apply because the skill is not chargeable.
- The strong-attack follow-up uses the weapon itself. A direct hit deals 33 stance damage on greatswords, curved greatswords, heavy thrusting swords and greataxes; 36 on colossal swords and non-hammer colossal weapons; 42 on great hammers; or 45 on hammer-type colossal weapons.
- These values describe a clean direct hit. The roar can push a smaller enemy out of the follow-up's reach, and a resistant enemy can keep attacking. You can skip the slam and use the opening for another action instead.
- Shard of Alexander strengthens the damaging skill. Axe Talisman does not apply to the follow-up simply because you press strong attack, and neither talisman increases stance damage by its HP-damage percentage.
- The roar does not add the weapon's bleed, poison or rot to its shockwave. An actual weapon hit in the follow-up can apply the weapon's status buildup.
- This is the transferable Ash found on top of the skull. Troll's Golden Sword starts with the skill, while Troll Knight's Sword and Troll's Hammer have fixed versions. Owning one of those weapons does not unlock a removable copy.
- Compatible weapon classes: Greatsword, Colossal Sword, Curved Greatsword, Heavy Thrusting Sword, Greataxe, Great Hammer, Colossal Weapon, Great Katana. A weapon with a fixed skill cannot use this Ash of War.
- Its default affinity is Heavy. The supported choices are Standard, Heavy, Keen, Quality, Fire, Flame Art, Lightning, Sacred, Magic, Cold, Poison, Blood and Occult; the appropriate whetblade is needed for additional options.
