The dreadful visage and burning flames are designed to remind one of the horror of facing a Fire Giant. In other words, this shield has an instructional function.

Caelid

Starting Site of Grace: Caelem Ruins

  1. Follow the northern Limgrave road east through Summonwater Village and across the Caelid border. Continue along the main road past Smoldering Church and Rotview Balcony to Caelem Ruins, watching for the giant dogs around the ruined walls.
  2. Search the eastern side of Caelem Ruins for the staircase down into the cellar.
  3. Enter the fog gate and defeat the two Mad Pumpkin Heads. Open the door beyond their room and loot the chest for the shield.

Notes

  • Requires 44 Strength and weighs 24. It blocks 100% Physical and 81% Fire damage, with 75 base Guard Boost. Magic and Holy protection are both 62%.
  • Tongues of Fire sprays a short stream while keeping the shield raised. Hold the skill to continue and walk slowly while spraying; each attack costs five FP and 16 stamina.
  • The flames improve with reinforcement alone. Strength improves the shield's ordinary Physical attacks, while Faith does not increase the flamethrower's damage.
  • Blocking during the skill uses more stamina than an ordinary block. Being protected by the shield animation does not make it safe to spray through a long enemy combo.
  • Shard of Alexander and Fire damage bonuses improve the flames. Holding the spray is continuous use rather than a charged attack, so Godfrey Icon does not apply.
  • Upgrade it with Somber Smithing Stones to +10. Tongues of Fire and its affinity are fixed.
  • The chest is behind the two Mad Pumpkin Heads in Caelem Ruins' cellar. Defeating them opens access; neither the boss reward screen nor the enemies in the ruins outside give the shield directly.
