In-game description

Distinctive horn suffused with the power of ancestral spirits. This large, wing-shaped specimen is wielded as a weapon of spirit worship.

In the ancestral spirit-worshipping faith, these are considered envoys' wings, made to reap the lives of beings which experience no sprouting.

LocationRegal Ancestor Spirit arena

Nokron, Eternal City

Starting Site of Grace: Ancestral Woods

Before you go

  • Defeat Starscourge Radahn to enter Nokron.
  • Light the six braziers in Nokron's Ancestral Woods and defeat the Regal Ancestor Spirit.
  • Keep the Remembrance of the Regal Ancestor.
  1. Defeat Starscourge Radahn at the Radahn Festival in Redmane Castle. His defeat opens the starfall crater in Limgrave; it is not the sealed Siofra River overlook reached from the Four Belfries.
  2. Return to the Mistwood near Fort Haight and find the new crater marked by floating rocks. Use the descending ledges and openings to enter Nokron, Eternal City.
  3. Follow the rooftops down into Nokron's streets, then continue to the Mimic Tear boss. Defeat it and cross the long bridge beyond the arena.
  4. Leave the bridge on the left where it opens into woodland. Follow the western cliff to Ancestral Woods grace, overlooking the lower rooftops.
  5. In the upper woods, light the pillar beside the cliff near the broken bridge. Continue along the brick road for the next roadside pillar.
  6. Follow the road to the raised ledge with a singing Ancestral Follower. Deal with the nearby followers and light the pillar beside the singer.
  7. Go northwest behind the large rock for another pillar. Continue north toward the cliff and flooded ruins for the pillar guarded by giant rats and chanting followers.
  8. Find the remaining pillar in the ruins near the deer remains beside upper Hallowhorn Grounds. These are six pillars in the upper woods, separate from the eight in lower Siofra River.
  9. Check the flames along the Hallowhorn Grounds stairs to confirm all six are lit. Touch the glowing horned remains inside to enter the spirit arena.
  10. Defeat Regal Ancestor Spirit to receive its remembrance automatically. Lower Siofra's ordinary Ancestor Spirit gives Ancestral Follower Ashes instead.
  11. Keep Remembrance of the Regal Ancestor and exchange it with Enia at Roundtable Hold for Winged Greathorn. This option has no additional rune charge; Ancestral Spirit's Horn is the alternative talisman reward.

Notes

  • Requires 30 Strength and 20 Dexterity and weighs 11. Its ordinary physical damage has equal Strength and Dexterity scaling. It has no Intelligence or Faith requirement and is a greataxe, not a spellcasting catalyst.
  • Soul Stifler costs 12 FP and creates a stationary miasma that weakens enemies caught inside. Once applied, the defense debuff lasts 60 seconds; it does not require the enemy to stay beside you for that entire duration.
  • The cloud weakens defense rather than dealing poison, Scarlet Rot or Death Blight. It does not restore HP or FP and should not be confused with Ancestral Spirit's Horn's kill reward.
  • The debuff remains on an affected enemy after switching weapons, allowing you to use a different weapon or spell for the attack. An enemy that never enters the cloud does not receive the effect just because you used the skill nearby.
  • Its debuff competes with Shriek of Milos, Greyoll's Roar and the moon defense debuffs. Frostbite's separate defense penalty can combine with it; repeatedly casting competing debuffs does not add all their full percentages.
  • Raising Strength or Dexterity improves the greataxe's hits, rather than increasing the fixed defense penalty. Shard of Alexander cannot increase a non-damaging cloud's debuff amount.
  • Upgrade with Somber Smithing Stones to +10. The skill and affinity are fixed, and outside grease or a weapon enchantment cannot be applied.
  • Regal Ancestor Spirit is the upper Nokron encounter with six braziers. The ordinary Ancestor Spirit in lower Siofra River uses eight and does not give this remembrance.
  • The cloud is stationary, so place it where an enemy is approaching or already committed to an animation. Casting it far away does not attach it to the target.
  • Godfrey Icon does not apply because Soul Stifler cannot be charged. Its usefulness comes from weakening a target for later attacks, rather than a large initial skill hit.
