In-game description
One of the treasures of the ruined forges.
A tremendous hammer that incorporates as its head the red-hot anvil of the forge.
It is said that the anvil's shape is inspired by that of an altar, and that long ago, it was indeed used as such in rite and ritual.
Skill
Slam the red-hot anvil into the ground, sending up countless spears as it is pulled out. The spears disappear instantly.
Where to find
Gravesite Plain
Starting Site of Grace: Ruined Forge Lava Intake
Before you go
- To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
- From Castle Front, follow the lower valley southeast through the soldier camps and the groups fighting Bloodfiends. Look for the broken brick entrance built into the rock. Go inside and activate Ruined Forge Lava Intake.
- Take the stairs southeast from the grace and turn right at the bottom. Follow the passage deeper inside. Two burning blobs drop from the ceiling along this route. Go through the doorway behind the second one into the next large chamber.
- In the next large chamber, climb down the ladder to the lower floor. Go up the right-hand stairs, then use the fallen stonework to reach the upper balcony. Watch for another blob at the landing.
- Turn right along that balcony, toward the northwest, and watch for another ceiling blob. Take the ladder down to the ledge with the lever. Pull it to lower the large metal pipe into the lava.
- Get onto the lowered pipe and walk up it. Near the top, jump onto the ledge on your right, toward the southeast, and follow the passage to the altar.
- Examine the altar to receive the Anvil Hammer and an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. The nearby return point takes you back to the entrance.
Notes
- Requires 39 Strength, 10 Dexterity, 11 Intelligence and 20 Faith, and weighs 22. Two-handing meets the Strength requirement at 26 Strength, but does not remove any of the other requirements.
- Strength is the main Physical damage attribute and Faith improves its Fire damage as well as contributing to Physical damage. Dexterity and Intelligence make smaller Physical contributions; the Intelligence requirement does not give it Magic damage.
- Its ordinary physical hits are Strike damage. The combination of a heavy hammer and Fire damage is different from a purely physical colossal weapon, so enemy resistance can change the result.
- Smithing Art Spears costs 18 FP for the whole sequence. It slams the anvil down, then pulls it up as spears rise from the ground; the spear phase follows automatically.
- The skill uses the weapon's Physical and Fire attack power. Its rising spears are not projectiles cast through a staff or a separate purely Faith-scaled incantation.
- The slam deals 15 stance damage and the main spear rise deals 30 if both connect. The briefly lingering spear contacts do not add further stance damage.
- Shard of Alexander improves the skill. Flame, Grant Me Strength can improve both its Physical and Fire damage, while Fire-only bonuses improve only the Fire portion.
- Godfrey Icon does not help because the skill cannot be charged. Smithing Talisman boosts suitable thrown attacks, not every attack with smithing in its name.
- The skill has resistance to interruption, but completing its close-range animation still means surviving incoming hits. It does not provide a block or invulnerability.
- Uses Somber Smithing Stones to +10. Its skill and affinity are fixed, and grease or weapon enchantments cannot be applied.
- Ruined Forge Lava Intake has an altar reward rather than a final boss. Ride the lowered pipe up to the side passage and examine the altar for the hammer and an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.
