About this spirit

Costs 111 FP and summons a Black Knight with a greatshield and large hammer.

His shield helps him hold a front-line position, and the hammer can interrupt susceptible enemies rather than relying only on passive blocking.

He can also use a Crucible tongue attack. That gives him a different attack option from Captain Huw's twinblade and wings.

Technical details

Separate summoning cost and upgrade fields are not recorded for this spirit. The description and notes contain the reviewed information.

In-game description

Ashen remains in which spirits yet dwell. Use to summon the spirit of Andreas, Black Knight Commander.

The Black Knights were the primary force of Messmer's army. Their first leader was Andreas, a man of endowed with great strength and command over the powers of the Crucible, and whose spirit in these ashes dwells.

Though he remained a devout follower of Messmer after his flight from the Erdtree, he would rebel after learning of his liege's serpentine nature. His righteous stand was rewarded with imprisonment in an underground tomb.

Where to find

Fog Rift Catacombs upper hidden passage

Gravesite Plain

Starting Site of Grace: Fog Rift Catacombs

  1. From Castle Front, follow the road north beneath the fort's wooden structures into the foggy woodland. Continue past the Shadow Militiamen to the catacomb doors between two pale braziers. Enter, take the lift down, and activate the grace.
  2. Pass the first Imp and cross the first spike-ceiling chamber using the side alcove between drops. Continue beneath the walkway occupied by a caster to the room with a cannon-headed Imp above you.
  3. Take the stairs on the left from that room to the next spike-ceiling ledge. Trigger the trap, wait for it to fall and step onto its flat top. Ride upward instead of dropping to the lower lift route.
  4. Cross its upper surface to the raised doorway beside the cannon Imp. Follow the passage past the caster and across the overpass above the room you passed through earlier.
  5. Climb the stairs to the soldiers outside the Black Knight’s room. Draw them out separately, including the soldier hiding inside the doorway, then fight the knight.
  6. Outside the room where the Black Knight guarded Great Ghost Glovewort, approach the ledge directly south. Trigger the first falling spike ceiling from the ledge, wait for it to fall and jump onto its top.
  7. Ride the trap upward and enter the newly reachable upper passage.
  8. Follow the passage to the sarcophagus containing Andreas. This is an optional upper detour, before the dungeon's lower lifts and Death Knight.
  9. The nearby window is an exit after collecting the ashes: drop through it to return to the Black Knight's room. It is not the way to board the trap.

Notes

  • Costs 111 FP and summons a Black Knight with a greatshield and large hammer.
  • His shield helps him hold a front-line position, and the hammer can interrupt susceptible enemies rather than relying only on passive blocking.
  • He can also use a Crucible tongue attack. That gives him a different attack option from Captain Huw's twinblade and wings.
  • Attacks from the sides and heavy pressure can still hurt him. A shield-bearing summon does not guarantee that every attack will be blocked or every boss distracted.
  • Upgrade him with Ghost Glovewort. His named-ash status does not mean the player can summon him outside permitted Spirit Ash areas.
  • Ride the upper ceiling trap in Fog Rift Catacombs to the hidden passage and sarcophagus. The lower Death Knight encounter is optional for these ashes.
  • He can follow a successful guard with a hammer counter. The large shield helps from the front, but an enemy that circles him can avoid that protection.
  • His Crucible tongue can pull a susceptible target toward him. It does not guarantee that a large boss can be grabbed or dragged, and it is different from Huw's winged attacks.
  • Upgrades through Roderika to +10 with Ghost Glovewort, finishing with a Great Ghost Glovewort. Reinforcement does not increase the summoning payment.
  • Requires Spirit Calling Bell and an area where the rebirth-monument icon allows summoning. The ash remains reusable, but you cannot repeatedly replace fallen spirits during the same encounter.
