The Crystalian's faint cogitation is known as the "wisdom of stone." This staff can only be wielded by those of intellect high enough to grasp such wisdom.

Starting Site of Grace: Academy Crystal Cave

Before you go

  • Bring two Stonesword Keys to open the cave entrance.
  1. Stay at lake level on the western side of Raya Lucaria. Find Academy Crystal Cave in the cliff at the academy's base, use two Stonesword Keys at its imp statue and activate the grace inside. This is not Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel on the northeastern shore.
  2. Follow the tunnel past the rats into the large chamber of glowing crystals. Deal with the nearer sorcerers before drawing the group farther left; the crystal outcrops give you cover from their spells.
  3. Head north through the chamber, past the fireflies. The small cage room is a side pickup; continue toward the lantern-lit passage and open the wooden door.
  4. The next room has a strong pointed-hat sorcerer near the doorway and another caster closer to the boss fog. Clear enough space to search without being caught between their spells.
  5. Turn back toward the wooden door and strike the western rock wall beside the Budding Cave Moss. Follow the revealed passage upward and defeat the sorcerer on the raised path.
  6. Open the chest at the end for Crystal Staff. The lower chest contains a Rune Arc; neither that chest nor the Crystalian bosses awards the staff.

Notes

  • Requires eight Strength and 48 Intelligence, and weighs 4.5. Intelligence improves its Sorcery Scaling; Strength is not a second way to improve the spells cast with it.
  • Increases Shattering Crystal, Crystal Release and Crystal Torrent damage by 10%. Crystal Burst and Crystal Barrage are different sorceries and do not get this Crystalian spell bonus.
  • The bonus works from either active hand, including when another staff casts the spell. Two active copies multiply to 21% more damage from the three qualifying sorceries; a staff in an inactive slot gives no bonus.
  • At +10 and 80 Intelligence, it gives 367 Sorcery Scaling, compared with 373 on Carian Regal Scepter. Its additional Crystalian bonus can still make it useful for its three supported spells.
  • There is no additional FP cost attached to this staff. It does not increase Intelligence or give a damage bonus to every spell with crystal in its name.
  • Upgrade it with Somber Smithing Stones to +10. It has No Skill, cannot use a replacement Ash of War and cannot be coated with grease or a weapon enchantment.
  • This version has no native Scarlet Rot buildup. Rotten Crystal Staff's rot is a melee property, rather than an extra damage or status effect for spells.
  • The fixed chest is behind a false wall in Academy Crystal Cave. You do not need its boss reward, Sellen's quest or the Academy Glintstone Key for the staff.
