About this spirit

Ashen remains in which spirits yet dwell.

Use to summon the spirit of a Fire Monk.

Spirit of a stout monk who monitored the Giants' Flame. Versed in fire incantations, and himself steeled against fire.

Though he was charged with keeping watch over the Flame, after many years of solemn duty, he has succumbed to its allure.

Starting Site of Grace: Giants' Mountaintop Catacombs

1. From Zamor Ruins, follow the route toward the narrow stone bridge farther north. Before the bridge, check the downhill path on the right beside the Fire Monk approach. Open the catacomb doors at the bottom and activate the grace.
2. Go downstairs past the imps and take the first lift down. At the bottom, send it back up while staying off it. A second platform beneath the first becomes available.
3. Ride that lower platform into the hidden section. Deal with the imp and the staff-wielding Burial Watchdog before entering the frost trap corridors.
4. Hit the first frost pillar to lower it. A ranged attack lets you do this without running through its breath. Watch for the pressure plate in the side corridor.
5. Continue past the first pillar to the second. Lower it too, then defeat or carefully pass the sword-wielding Watchdog beyond it. The chest behind the Watchdog contains the ashes.
6. The Ulcerated Tree Spirit is elsewhere in this dungeon. You do not need to open its boss door or defeat it for this chest.

Notes

• Summons one Fire Monk who uses a mace and Fire incantations. He has a melee option rather than being a sorcerer who can only cast from the rear.
• He is resistant to Fire, but that does not make him immune to it. His own flames are also less effective against an enemy with high Fire negation.
• These are ordinary Fire attacks. He does not reproduce Blackflame Monk Amon's percentage-based black-flame drain, and the two summons use different upgrade materials.
• Your sacred seal, Faith and selected incantations do not change his spell list or directly supply his spell damage. Upgrade the summon itself.
• The hidden lower lift platform is the important dungeon turn. If you are following repeated rooms full of Living Jars, you have continued along the main route instead.
• The Watchdogs and frost pillars guard the optional chest. The Ulcerated Tree Spirit at the dungeon's end is not required for these ashes.
• Costs 85 FP for the whole summon. Upgrade with Grave Glovewort through +10 at Roderika's spirit tuning, rather than using Ghost Glovewort or reinforcing the ashes at a blacksmith.
• The ashes are reusable. You need the Spirit Calling Bell and an area where the rebirth-monument icon allows Spirit Ashes; owning enough FP does not allow summoning everywhere.
