In-game description
Sacred sword of the Gloam-Eyed Queen who controlled the Godskin Apostles before her defeat at the hands of Maliketh.
The black flames wielded by the apostles are channeled from this sword.
Skill
Set the blade ablaze with the god-slaying black flame before delivering a sweeping slash. Additional input allows for a follow-up attack. The black flames will continue to wear down HP for a while.
Where to find
Dragonbarrow
Starting Site of Grace: Divine Tower of Caelid: Basement
Before you go
- Reach Divine Tower of Caelid and defeat its Godskin Apostle.
- Start at Dragonbarrow West in northern Caelid and ride northeast toward the enormous Divine Tower. Approach its southern side from the cliff beside the branching roots.
- Use the raised root to reach the tower ledge with a torch-carrying soldier and ladder. Clear the soldier before climbing so you can line up the next ledge safely.
- After the first ladder, follow the raised stone ledge around the tower, jumping its broken sections. Continue toward the guards and the next tall ladder, rather than taking a lower optional loot detour.
- Climb to the higher ledge and follow it left to the tower opening. Activate Divine Tower of Caelid: Center before attempting the interior descent.
- Take the eastern doorway and stairs down. The western route goes up toward Radahn's Great Rune and does not reach the armor.
- Clear the two soldiers in the lit room, including the one waiting on the right. Drop through the open shaft edge onto the projecting stone platform below.
- Stay against the wall and follow its narrow ledge to the next cracked support. Step onto it and let it collapse to the lower level; this is part of the intended route.
- Face the large central pillar and work down the projecting stone beams and platforms beside it. Walk off toward each visible lower landing instead of running or jumping out into the middle of the shaft.
- Continue down along the pillar to the ledge with a shielded soldier beside a cage lift. Defeat the soldier, enter the cage and ride upward.
- At the upper landing, climb the nearby ladder and open the shortcut door back toward the center grace. Open it now so a later fall does not mean repeating the first descent.
- Climb back down and follow the curved corridor. A Blackflame Monk waits around the corner; clear him before following the passage to its dead end.
- At the end, use the narrow ledge on the left to reach the second cracked support below. Let it collapse, then take the next cage lift down.
- Activate Divine Tower of Caelid: Basement. A second Blackflame Monk guards the stairs between this grace and the Godskin Apostle's fog door.
- Defeat the Godskin Apostle beyond the monk. This particular Apostle gives Godskin Apostle Hood, Robe, Bracelets and Trousers together as the boss reward.
- After the Apostle is dead, enter the room behind his arena and open its chest for Godslayer's Greatsword. The boss's automatic armor reward does not include the sword.
Notes
- Physical damage scales most strongly with Dexterity, with weaker Strength scaling.
- Fire damage scales most strongly with Faith.
- Upgrade it with Somber Smithing Stones. Its maximum upgrade is +10.
- Its The Queen's Black Flame skill is fixed and cannot be replaced with an Ash of War.
- Requires 20 Strength, 22 Dexterity and 20 Faith and weighs 17.5. Two-handing meets the Strength requirement at 14, but still needs the full Dexterity and Faith requirements.
- It is a colossal sword with unusually quick, sweeping light attacks shared with Fire Knight's Greatsword. Dexterity provides its strongest Physical scaling, while Faith improves the separate Fire component.
- Its opening light attacks cause a shorter enemy flinch than the usual colossal sword lights, despite keeping their stance damage. Faster swings do not mean every opponent stays locked in a long stagger.
- Those ordinary light hits contribute more progress to consecutive-hit damage bonuses than typical colossal sword lights. You still need to keep landing attacks before the bonus decays.
- The Queen's Black Flame costs 15 FP for the first attack and another 15 FP for its heavy-input follow-up. The slow preparation and second slash need a longer opening than an ordinary light hit.
- The skill's blade contacts use the weapon's mixed attack power, while its health drain depends on the target. Faith is not the sole attribute behind every part of the attack.
- The black-flame drain belongs to the skill. Ordinary sword attacks have Fire damage but do not automatically apply that drain or bleed.
- Shard of Alexander improves the skill's direct damage. Godslayer's Seal boosts supported incantations, rather than giving this weapon skill the same school bonus.
- Grease and weapon enchantments cannot be applied. The black-flame skill is fixed, with no alternative Ash or affinity.
- The basement Apostle gives his clothing directly, while the sword is in the chest beyond his arena. Radahn's Great Rune and the tower summit are unnecessary for this chest.
