Altus Plateau

Before you go

  • Reach northern Altus Plateau.
  1. Reach Altus Plateau by Grand Lift of Dectus or the Ruin-Strewn Precipice route past Magma Wyrm Makar.
  2. Follow the northern Altus highway east toward the capital's outer wall. Find Highway Lookout Tower on the road outside the northern wall; this is the Altus tower, not the tower with the same name in Liurnia.
  3. Clear the soldiers around its base and climb the ladders to the top. Open the summit chest for Greatbow.
  4. No capital boss is required for the chest. Large stone Golem archers drop Golem Greatbow, a different weapon.

Notes

  • Strength and Dexterity have equal scaling coefficients. Its high attack per shot does not mean it gains all its damage from Strength alone.
  • Uses greatarrows. Ordinary arrows, bolts and greatbolts are incompatible, so the ammunition used by Longbow or a ballista will not supply this weapon.
  • Through and Through costs 9 FP for a powerful piercing shot. Line up targets and allow room for its slower firing animation; it is not the rapid movement pattern of a light bow.
  • Greatarrow impacts can knock suitable enemies back, which is useful near ledges. Large enemies and bosses do not all react with the same knockdown.
  • Can use compatible Greatbow Ashes of War, such as Rain of Arrows. An Ash meant for a light bow or ordinary bow is not automatically compatible.
  • The tower chest is a guaranteed copy. Suitable greatbow-wielding knights can also drop it, with a 4% base chance at 100 Item Discovery; Golem archers have a different weapon.
  • Upgrade with Smithing Stones to +25.
  • Grease and weapon enchantments cannot be applied. Choose the ammunition for added elemental damage or status buildup; this bow has no Arcane scaling to increase the arrows' status buildup.
  • Requires 20 Strength and 20 Dexterity. Weighs 10. Ordinary shots spend stamina and ammunition; the skill also needs its listed FP.
