In-game description
Greatsword embedded with a blue glintstone.
The favored weapon of the steadfast Carian knight, Moonrithyll.
Moonrithyll was the Twin Moon Knight's chamberlain. She was also a friend to the trolls, who served the royal family, and proudly wielded their weapons as she fought arm in arm with her gargantuan comrades.
Skill
Skill of the enchanted troll knights. Creates a defensive arch of enormous magic glintblades overhead, which automatically attack nearby foes. Follow up with a strong attack to chain this skill into a lunging thrust.
Where to find
Gravesite Plain
Starting Site of Grace: Castle Ensis Checkpoint
Before you go
- To enter the Realm of Shadow, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch the withered arm in Mohg's arena at Mohgwyn Palace.
- Access the Realm of Shadow and progress through Castle Ensis.
- From Castle Front, cross the northeastern bridge toward Castle Ensis. Pass or defeat the Troll Knight at the far end, then climb the large stairs on the left.
- Follow the path left at the top. Soldiers and dogs wait around the fires and stairway, so draw them out before climbing farther.
- Continue through the cave beyond the first campfire. Climb the ledges at its far exit, then follow the uphill path past the patrolling Black Knight.
- At the top is a closed gate with Miquella's Cross beside it. Activate Castle Ensis Checkpoint grace before attempting the detour.
- With the closed gate ahead, follow the wall to the right to the soldier crouching at the ledge. Drop to the ledge below, then into the hole leading to the flooded cave. Three dogs attack inside.
- Leave the cave and turn left toward the waterfall. Jump across the rock platforms, continue through the river arch and climb the ladder beside the falling water.
- Enter the room at the top, watching for an ambush on the left. Cross to the gate mechanism and turn it to open the shortcut back to Checkpoint grace.
- Climb the stairs and cross the guarded bridge. Continue past the dog ambush and spellcasting nobles to the stairs leading up toward the chapel.
- Moonrithyll, Carian Knight guards the chapel entrance. Defeat him or move past him carefully; the shield stairs and chapel altar are separate pickups here.
- Defeat Moonrithyll outside the chapel for the guaranteed sword reward. This is the hostile knight carrying the enormous sword, not Rellana in the later arena.
- The shield chest down the western stairs and the talisman on the chapel altar are separate pickups. They do not need to be collected to receive the sword.
Notes
- A Colossal Sword despite its name. Requires 20 Strength, 14 Dexterity and 18 Intelligence and weighs 18.
- Its Physical damage has equal Strength and Dexterity scaling. Intelligence raises the separate Magic damage, but investing in it does not improve the physical part of ordinary hits.
- Its first heavy attack is a thrust, with further attacks continuing the heavy chain. This gives it a forward Pierce option as well as its broad swings.
- Tremendous Phalanx costs 16 FP to create three large Magic swords overhead. They travel with you and automatically launch at nearby enemies in front of you.
- Press strong attack after creating the swords for a lunging thrust costing another 6 FP. The thrust uses the weapon's attack power; the floating swords use Intelligence and weapon upgrade level.
- The three floating swords can be prepared before approaching an enemy. Give them room around doorways and walls so the blades do not collide with the scenery.
- Another phalanx replaces the current floating swords. Do not expect this skill, the phalanx sorceries and another use of the skill to build several defensive arches at once.
- Shard of Alexander can strengthen the skill. The Spellblade outfit strengthens its Magic skill damage, while Godfrey Icon does not apply because Tremendous Phalanx cannot be charged.
- The thrust deals Pierce damage with its Physical component, so it can benefit from counter-hit bonuses. The floating Magic swords do not receive that Physical Pierce bonus.
- Upgrade it with Somber Smithing Stones to +10. Its skill is fixed, and it cannot use another Ash of War, grease or an outside weapon enchantment.
- Its critical rating is 100 and it has no innate blood loss or Frostbite. The Magic swords are not Frostbite attacks merely because they look blue.
