LocationClifftop beyond Gaol Cave

Caelid

Starting Site of Grace: Gaol Cave

Before you go

  • Bring two Stonesword Keys to enter Gaol Cave.
  • Defeat the Frenzied Duelist.
  1. From Fort Gael North in Caelid, head southeast to the small scarlet rot pool east of the fort. Search the pool's southern cliff for Gaol Cave. Use two Stonesword Keys at its imp seal, then activate the grace inside.
  2. Follow the tunnels past the rats until the weak floor gives way. Drop into the lower prison passage. The cells are locked for now; one lever opens them together later.
  3. Continue past the wooden door and the militia ambush. Drop from the small ledge, watching for another militia fighter below. In the room with the guarded large metal gate, take the tunnel on the right instead of trying to open the gate.
  4. Pass the rats and enter the room with bookshelves and a chest. Clear the militia fighters on the lower floor, watch for the one above, then climb the stairs and pull the lever. This opens the cells and metal gate.
  5. The released burning prisoners can swell up and explode. Give them room and move away when they start to swell. Use the wooden door downstairs to return to the ledge beside the Stake of Marika.
  6. Drop from that ledge and follow the prison passage back toward the large metal gate. Go through the opened gate, then break the wooden boards in the southwest part of the room beyond.
  7. Descend the shaft using the intermediate ledges rather than dropping straight to the bottom. Reaching the bottom starts the Frenzied Duelist fight, so heal before the final drop.
  8. Defeat the Frenzied Duelist. Leave the return-to-entrance prompt alone and follow the tunnel beyond the arena. It opens onto a Limgrave clifftop; loot the corpse there for Regalia of Eochaid.

Notes

  • Requires 12 Strength, 18 Dexterity and 15 Arcane, and weighs 5.5. Arcane improves both its physical and Magic damage. Dexterity improves the physical portion, with weaker Strength scaling; Intelligence does not improve its Magic damage.
  • The physical Dexterity and Arcane scaling coefficients start equal, but Arcane also contributes to Magic damage. That makes the complete damage split more useful than judging the weapon from one displayed letter or coefficient.
  • Its fixed Eochaid's Dancing Blade skill costs 15 FP. It throws the sword forward in a spinning attack that hits repeatedly before returning. Hold the skill input to charge it for a longer-reaching, longer-lasting attack.
  • The skill uses the weapon's attack power. Reinforcement and the attributes contributing to that attack power improve it; it is not a separate Intelligence-based sorcery projectile.
  • Shard of Alexander improves skill damage, and Godfrey Icon improves the charged version. Successive-attack effects can also build up as the spinning blade lands repeated hits, but a moving enemy may leave the blade before the full sequence connects.
  • Winged Sword Insignia and Rotten Winged Sword Insignia cannot be equipped together. Millicent's Prosthesis can be combined with either. Axe Talisman improves ordinary charged heavy attacks rather than this charged skill.
  • It has no innate blood loss despite its Arcane requirement. Upgrade it with Somber Smithing Stones to +10. It cannot use a replacement Ash of War, grease or weapon enchantments.
  • The sword is a separate corpse pickup beyond the boss arena, rather than the boss's direct reward. Taking the return-to-entrance prompt immediately after the fight skips it.
