Starting Site of Grace: Chamber Outside the Plaza

Before you go

  • The Radahn Festival must be inactive for the duo boss to appear.
  1. Follow Caelid's southern road east to Impassable Greatbridge, facing Redmane Castle. The duo boss must be present outside the Radahn Festival for this reward.
  2. If the festival is already active, use the sending gate beside the bridge, defeat Radahn and return to Jerren in the chapel behind the plaza. Finish his dialogue, rest or leave, then return for the castle's normal state.
  3. For the ordinary defended entrance, cross the bridge while avoiding the siege fire. The main gate is shut: take the path around the castle's right exterior, past the bats to the rear ladder.
  4. Climb the tall ladder, drop into the upper castle route and enter the stable room. Open its shortcut door, then use the next ladder and drop into the courtyard.
  5. Pass the courtyard's Lion Guardians and climb the stairs toward Chamber Outside the Plaza. Activate the grace in the side room before entering the adjoining boss plaza.
  6. Defeat both Misbegotten Warrior and Crucible Knight in the same encounter to receive Ruins Greatsword. Killing only the first enemy does not complete the reward.

Notes

  • Requires 50 Strength and 16 Intelligence, and weighs 23. Two-handing meets its Strength requirement at 34 Strength, while the Intelligence requirement remains unchanged.
  • Strength supplies nearly all of its useful ordinary damage growth, reaching S scaling at +10. Intelligence improves only the small Magic portion; the Intelligence requirement does not make it primarily a caster weapon.
  • Wave of Destruction costs 25 FP and sends a wave along the ground after the sword slam. Both use the weapon's split attack power rather than converting the entire attack into pure Magic damage.
  • The slam and wave can both hit at close range. Their stance damage is 5.1 and 18 respectively, for 23.1 if both connect; staying far away gives up the blade contact.
  • The ground-following wave can travel over changes in terrain, but its path and an enemy's height still matter. An airborne enemy is not guaranteed to be hit just because it is locked on.
  • Its charged heavy attacks add a small gravity effect when the blade lands. That is part of the heavy attack, separate from the FP-consuming Wave of Destruction.
  • Shard of Alexander improves the skill. Godfrey Icon does not, since the skill cannot be charged; Axe Talisman is for the actual charged heavy attack.
  • Uses Somber Smithing Stones to +10. The skill and affinity are fixed, and grease or weapon enchantments cannot be applied.
  • It is a legendary armament needed for the legendary armaments achievement. The festival only delays its duo boss; it does not permanently remove the weapon if you restore the castle after Radahn.
